What Is 1923?

1923 is a TV series created by Taylor Sheridan that follows the Dutton family, made famous by the hit show Yellowstone.

This generation of the Dutton family faces the challenges of prohibition, drought, the Great Depression, and efforts by others to steal their land.

As a prequel to Yellowstone, 1923 is a sequel to the origin story told in 1883.

The main characters in 1923 include Jacob Dutton, played by Harrison Ford, who is the brother of James Dutton, the main character from 1883, portrayed by Tim McGraw.

Because James Dutton passed away before the events of 1923, Jacob has come to take over and save the ranch in partnership with Jack Dutton, who is James Dutton’s grandson.

Jack Dutton, played by Darren Mann, is married to Elizabeth Strafford, portrayed by Michelle Randolph, who is also featured in the hit series Landman.

Another key couple in the series is Spencer Dutton, played by Brandon Sklenar, who is married to Alexandra, portrayed by Julia Schlaepfer.

Together, these characters navigate the difficulties of their time while trying to uphold the legacy of the Dutton family.

Where Did 1923 Leave Off?

In a quick recap, Season 1 of 1923 ended with Spencer and his new bride, Alexandra, separated. Although they have plans to reunite at the ranch in Montana.

Throughout the season, the couple fell deeply in love and faced many life-threatening challenges. From being stranded on a boat in the middle of the ocean to getting stuck in a tree in Africa, fearing attacks from jungle cats.

Their separation occurs after a fight between Spencer and Alexandra’s ex-fiancé on the ship returning from Africa to the Americas. Watch below.

At the end of Season 1, the main villain of the series, Whitfield, pays off the Dutton family’s ranch debt. This means that if the Duttons fail to repay him, Whitfield will take ownership of the ranch.

In addition, the Dutton family is facing life-threatening shootouts and the looming Great Depression, leaving them in dire need of support. This is why Spencer is returning home to Montana.
