Hannah Harper’s new song “Hold Your Horses” reminds us that we all need to slow down sometimes.

She dropped the song on Friday, September 4, along with an accompanying music video.

It’s her second music release since she won American Idol back in May. Earlier in the summer, Hannah released “Married Into This Town.” It’s a tribute to her husband, Devon, and his hometown of Willow Springs, Missouri, which she now also calls home.

She first debuted the song live during Idol’s series finale. After fans heard the original track, they pushed for her to release it on streaming platforms, and she did.

She also shared an official visualizer video for the song. It features a few adorable scenes of Hannah and Devon together on their Willow Springs property.

“Hold Your Horses” is a follow-up to “Married Into This Town.” Devon also appears in this song’s music video.

Hannah started teasing the song at the very beginning of August with a behind-the-scenes look at a photoshoot.

Later, she gave fans a very short preview of the video. The first snippet we got shows Devon walking into a cabin, grabbing Hannah’s hand, and twirling her around.

While Hannah’s “Married Into This Town” was more of a love song, “Hold Your Horses” is an upbeat, Western-themed country track about taking a breath and regaining control when life starts to feel overwhelming.

In the video, Devon plays the frustrated partner who’s letting all the little things build up and make him angry. Hannah encourages him to slow down, even giving him an ultimatum of “simmer down, cowboy up, or hold your horses.”

A few of the song’s lyrics go:

“Your saddle seemed to get turned around

You’re runnin’ like a rodeo clown

Well you don’t want to ride this trail too fast now baby

And the last thing that I need right now is crazy

Well I love you dear but I’m gonna give you one of three choices

Simmer down, cowboy up, or hold your horses”

Hannah has been very busy since gaining fame on American Idol. The 26-year-old made her Grand Ole Opry debut in June, and shortly after, she took another huge step in her career by signing with WME for global representation.

Hannah is currently on her String Cheese Tour, which is named after her original song that went viral when she sang it during her audition.
