Two months after winning American Idol, Hannah Harper has released a brand-new song, one that she previously sang on the show.

Harper quickly made a name for herself on Idol thanks to the original song she performed during her audition. That song, “String Cheese,” was inspired by her battle with postpartum depression following the birth of her third child.

The song’s emotional, relatable lyrics about parenthood and family life resonated with millions of listeners. Judge Carrie Underwood cried after hearing Harper sing and said, “You might be my favorite person to walk through those doors.”

Harper continued to bring that sense of authenticity to every song she sang on Idol, whether it was a cover or an original. This made her a fan-favorite contestant and the eventual winner of the season.

When Harper had her hometown visit in Willow Springs, Missouri, before the finale, she debuted a brand-new song. Titled “Married Into This Town,” the track is a tender tribute to her husband, Devon, and his hometown…which is now her home, too.

Harper later sang “Married Into This Town” on-air during the Idol finale. Her performance got another emotional reaction from judge Carrie Underwood, who noted the full-circle nature of Harper starting and ending her Idol journey with an original song.

Harper grew up in Bunker, Missouri, which is about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Willow Springs. When she married her husband, she also “married into” his hometown.

That’s what “Married Into This Town” is about…falling in love with someone, and therefore, falling in love with the place they’re from. Some of the lyrics go:

“I left behind those city streets

For a small town boy and his grandma’s ring.

White picket fence and a front porch swing,

Hand-me-down couch and a newfound dream.

I wasn’t born with roots in the ground,

But I brought ’em with me and plan to lay ’em down.”

Harper finally released a studio version of “Married Into This Town” on Friday (July 10th). This is the first song she has released since winning Idol in May.
