Honda owners beware: your vehicle could be affected by the company’s latest massive recall.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has recalled 880,514 vehicles due to a potential failure of rear suspension components, per a report submitted on June 4. If the problem occurs while the vehicle is in motion, it could make the driver lose control.

The issue stems from corrosion of the rear subframe, which can develop over time, especially in areas where road salt is commonly used during the winter months.

“As the corrosion progresses, material thinning and driving vibrations could cause the mounting area to fracture and fail,” NHTSA states.

Several models are included in the recall, including certain Honda Pilots (years 2016-2020), Honda Ridgeline trucks (years 2017-2023), Honda Passport SUVs (years 2019-2023), and the Acura MDX (years 2014-2020).

The affected vehicles were sold in the states of Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

What To Do If Your Honda Is Affected

As of now, Honda Motor Company has not reported any injuries related to the issue. Still, if you drive one of the recalled vehicles, it’s important to have it inspected as soon as possible to make sure it’s safe to be on the road.

Honda dealerships will provide this service for free and, if needed, install a replacement kit. In some cases, they may also repair or replace rear subframe components at no cost to the owner.

This recent recall comes just days after Honda Motor Company also reported issues affecting about 100,000 other vehicles due to airbag-related problems. According to the NHTSA, the concern is that passenger airbags may deploy unintentionally during a crash. You can learn more about that here.
