Legendary actor and filmmaker Clint Eastwood celebrated his 96th birthday on May 31. With that, reports that the Dirty Harry star had retired began popping up.

These rumors gained some credibility when a 2025 conversation with Clint’s son, Kyle Eastwood, resurfaced. While at the Maison de la Culture in France in November, Kyle said he had “many fond memories” of working with his dad, before remarking, “Now he’s retired.”

But another one of Clint’s sons says otherwise. Scott Eastwood, Clint’s youngest son, has since offered some clarification following the increase in retirement reports.

“We’ll see,” Scott told ScreenRant when the outlet asked him about Kyle’s comments regarding their dad’s retirement. “I have not heard that from [Clint’s] mouth at all.”

Scott, who’s an actor as well, continued to say:

“His career in general has been something to admire, something to be inspired by, and continues to inspire me. The work, the artistry that he’s done on and off screen. Producing, writing, composing, directing, acting. The body of work is incredible.”

What Was Clint Eastwood’s Last Project?

Eastwood has spent more time behind the camera in later years, directing projects such as Sully, American Sniper, and Richard Jewell. His last on-screen appearance was in the 2021 film Cry Macho, which followed his notable performance in 2018’s The Mule.

But Eastwood’s last project came in 2024, when he directed the legal thriller Juror #2. The movie starred Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, J. K. Simmons, and Kiefer Sutherland. The National Board of Review named it one of the Top 10 Films of 2024.

What has Clint said about his own retirement? A while ago, he told USA Today he will “probably keep going” as long as he has faith in a project.

“I feel good, but it depends on [the] material,” he said. “I probably wouldn’t do something just because it was marginal – I have to kind of think it has some validity and has some relationship to today.”

Many fans may not realize that Clint’s determination to live life to the fullest led to the creation of a country song. He inspired Toby Keith to write “Don’t Let the Old Man In.”

Toby once shared the story behind the song, saying he felt compelled to write it following a conversation with then-88-year-old Eastwood.

“He said, ‘I just get up every morning and go out. And I don’t let the old man in,'” Keith recalled. “And I thought, I’m writing that.”

“Don’t Let the Old Man In” was featured on the soundtrack for Clint’s movie The Mule. The song received renewed attention years later following a poignant performance from Toby at the 2023 People’s Choice Country Awards.

Toby was battling stomach cancer at the time. It ended up being his final televised performance, as he sadly passed away on February 5, 2024.
