Jelly Roll Reveals What’s Next For His Career
Is Jelly Roll done with his music career for good? In a recent interview, it sounds like the singer is up for whatever God has for him next, whether that be pursuing music or not.
During a concert in Salt Lake City over the summer, Jelly revealed that he planned to take an extended hiatus from touring. He told fans at the time that he expected to step away from the road for “a year or two” to take some time off and heal.
Jelly played what was expected to be his final show for the next year or two in Colorado Springs on July 30. His official tour schedule also currently lists “no upcoming events.”
His announcement came just a few months after the singer filed for divorce from his wife, Bunnie Xo. They were married for nearly 10 years. According to court documents, the couple listed May 9 as their official separation date and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.
The news came as a shock to fans, since the couple often gushed about one another in public and on social media. While Bunnie and Jelly don’t share any children, she helped raise Jelly’s now 18-year-old daughter, Bailee. Jelly also has a son from another prior relationship, named Noah.
In a tell-all podcast about her divorce, Bunnie Xo addressed rumors and explained where the two actually stand today. Bunnie made it clear during the 54-minute episode of her Dumb Blonde podcast, that she and Jelly ended things on decent terms, calling him her “best friend forever.”
As far as what’s next for Jelly, that’s yet to be determined. He recently sat down with Kelly Sutton on Y’all Access Radio and revealed that he’s waiting for his next direction from God.
Jelly has been known to share his faith and talk about how instrumental Jesus has been in turning his life around, so it’s no surprise he’s willing to go wherever the Lord leads.
He’s already allowed God to move him from a life marked by addiction and trouble to becoming a Grammy-winning singer, so it’s clear he trusts God to remain in control of wherever his journey leads next.
Speaking about what’s to come, Jelly said he is ultimately content because he has done everything he’s truly wanted to do in music.
“Everything that Jason or Jelly Roll wanted to do in the music business, I’ve done now. So at this point, I really need to go talk to God and see if he wants me to stick around and what He wants me to do next,” Jelly said.
The “Save Me” singer admits that wherever God sends him, he will go.
“If God tells me to go work at a homeless shelter in Paducah, Kentucky, I’m out of here. Y’all will never see me again… He gave me everything I ever wanted man. Grammys, ACMs, CMAs, I’m a member of the Grand Ole Opry. God has done it.”
