Kelly Clarkson Physically Blocked Riley Green During ‘The Voice’ Audition

During the Blind Auditions for Season 30 of The Voice, Kelly Clarkson is doing whatever it takes to land singers on her team.
When 26-year-old Anna McElroy auditioned with Maren Morris’ “80s Mercedes,” Kelly knew she wanted this singer on her team, so she turned her chair very early in the performance, along with Queen Latifah. As the two female coaches were enjoying the show, Riley Green turned around.
Knowing that she would really have to defeat Green, and because they don’t have the “Block Button” function anymore, Clarkson immediately jumped up from her seat and physically blocked the “My Way” singer from getting any eye contact with Anna.
After hearing that Anna was from Mobile, Alabama, Kelly felt her chances were low, seeing as Riley is also from Alabama. But, since the premiere, Kelly has been looking for a country singer to join her team and she reiterated that to Anna.
Adam Levine Steps In To Help Kelly…And Diss Blake Shelton
Coach Adam Levine, who did not turn for her, tried to help Kelly out by pointing out that Anna chose a Maren Morris song, meaning she can sing country as well as other genres, just like Maren.
He joked, “Your choice [of singing Maren Morris] indicates maybe there’s some freedom in your decision and you’re not just gonna go with Blake 2.0.”
Riley argued, “I’ve gotta be at least Blake 4.0!”
Adam agreed, saying, “Yeah, I mean, you’re way more handsome, talented, younger, you look better in a cowboy hat. Just smarter, in general.”
Poor Blake! He is years removed from The Voice, but he is still catching strays from his good buddy Adam!
Kelly Clarkson Believes She Can Win With Anna
Riley began pleading his case, telling her they probably had similar upbringings.
“Maren does do a lot of pop country and lives in a lot of different spaces, but I have to imagine that you’ve got a very country background. If that’s where you truly live, and that’s where your heart lives, then I think you should live with me,” he said.
Kelly immediately thought she lost here, but Anna quipped back, “Moving in already?!”
Kelly gave one last plea, “I have won this show. I am proven. I know you’re gonna pick him…But I think I can win with you!”
After pleading her case, it turns out Kelly did not need to block Riley at all because Anna chose her! The “Since U Been Gone” singer was completely shocked and ran up to the stage to hug Anna. As they did, Kelly repeated, “I can win this show with you!”
In an interview after the audition, Kelly said, “Anna is the country artist I’ve been waiting for.”
