Kenny Rogers’ Family Reflects On The “Painstakingly Hard” Loss Of Dolly Parton

One of country music’s most iconic duos – Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton – are united again.
Dolly Parton was one of the most beloved figures in country music history, and her passing has sent shockwaves through the community. Her family shared the tragic news of her death on August 25th. Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, shared a video message which stated:
“I am representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean. Sister, sis, Aunt Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next.”
The family later revealed her cause of death, explaining that the “Jolene” singer had briefly battled cancer before her passing.

Kenny Rogers’ Team Speaks Out
Hours after news of her passing broke, the family of Kenny Rogers, Dolly’s longtime duet partner, penned a heartfelt message to the icon. They addressed Dolly directly and wrote:
“It’s painstakingly hard to put into words what you meant to Kenny…and to all of us.”
Dolly and Kenny’s relationship began in the early 1980s when Dolly was brought in to sing vocals on Kenny’s song “Islands In The Stream.” The resulting duet was a huge hit, topping both the country and all-genre charts and becoming one of the most recognizable country-pop duets of all time.
Although neither set out to create a long-term duo, the success of “Islands In The Stream” led Dolly and Kenny to begin performing together more frequently. As time went on, they released a Christmas album, appeared on television together, and recorded more country hits.
The pair developed a genuine friendship, which extended beyond the public eye. Kenny’s family continued in their tribute:
“Saying a simple, yet sincere thank you could never be enough for bringing so much joy, laughter, and amazing songs and stories into our lives.
Your irreplaceable spirit of compassion, positivity, friendliness, and immense generosity will live on with your remarkable legacy.”
Kenny Rogers passed away in 2020 at the age of 81 at his home in Sandy Springs, Georgia. His family comments on the heavenly reunion that the two must be sharing and writes:
“Though we write this through tears and feelings of extraordinary grief and sadness, at the same time we realize how thankful we are that you were able to live such a vibrant and meaningful life using your many God-given talents, in turn making millions of other lives better, and we are happy for you and the reunions you’re enjoying with your heavenly arrival.”
