Kevin Costner’s Horizon is Set to Stream on Max Later This Month
The first chapter of Kevin Costner’s movie saga Horizon debuted in theaters on June 28, with the second chapter originally set for release on August 16.
Unfortunately, despite the film having high expectations, its initial performance fell short. It earned only $11 million during its opening weekend and placed third at the box office. By the end of its second week, Horizon had accumulated $23.2 million worldwide, even though Costner reportedly invested $38 million of his own money into the project.
Horizon dropped to sixth place at the box office by its third week. After just 18 days in theaters, the film transitioned to online streaming, hoping to reach a broader audience with its first chapter.
Due to the rocky start of the first chapter in Kevin Costner’s four-part series, the film’s production company revealed that the second chapter was pulled from the August theatrical release schedule, aiming for more people to watch the first one before it comes out.
The film has been available for streaming through premium video on demand and for purchase on platforms like Prime Video, Apple TV+, VUDU, and Google Play. Now, a release date for streaming on Max has been announced. Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 will be available to watch on Max starting August 23.

Kevin Costner Reveals New Details About Horizon: Chapter 2 Release
Although the updated theatrical release date for the second film has not yet been announced, it has been revealed that the world premiere of Chapter 2 will take place at the Venice Film Festival on September 7.
“My dream was always to show @horizonamericansaga Chapter 2 at the Venice Film Festival,” Costner wrote in a statement. “The fact that now they have decided to show Chapter 1 earlier in the day and then the World Premiere of Chapter 2 that evening shows not only their belief in how the two films work together but their support of a director’s vision. I’m indebted to Alberto Barbera for his courage and leadership in committing to this cinematic journey. It is with gratitude and excitement that I return to the Venice Film Festival. Long live the movies and those willing to stand for them.”
