American Idol Season 24 Crowns Its Winner

The latest season of American Idol came to a close on Monday (May 11), as the show named its newest winner during the live finale. The broadcast featured performances from the finalists, appearances from celebrity guests, and special moments with the judges as the season wrapped up.

Earlier in the month, the show marked the 20th anniversary of Season 5 with a special “Class of 2006 Reunion” episode that aired on May 4. The episode brought back former contestants Paris Bennett, Kellie Pickler, Elliott Yamin, Bucky Covington, and Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks.

One of the most beloved contestants of the season was 27-year-old gospel singer Jordan McCullough.

Jordan’s First Audition With “Goodness Of God” Stuns The Judges

Hailing from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Jordan began singing in church when he was just 4 years old. Before coming to Idol, he spent his time as a worship director at a local church and also auditioned for Season 17 of The Voice in 2019.

Jordan first walked into his Idol audition performing “Goodness of God,” originally released by Bethel Music and Jenn Johnson.

Originally released as part of a live worship recording, the song centers on themes of gratitude and faith. Its lyrics emphasize the belief that God’s goodness and mercy are constant throughout all stages of life, including moments of hardship and joy.

Jordan opened up at the time about the important role church has played in his life.

“That’s where I got my start,” he said. “I didn’t know that any of this was a possibility outside of the choir stand. Just four years old, I was singing in the choir, and yeah, that’s where it started.”

Jordan Delivers Full-Circle Moment During The Idol Finale

During the show’s finale, Jordan brought the crowd to a full-circle moment, returning with a performance of “Goodness of God.” The judges and the audience could be seen worshipping as Jordan boldly sang about his faith.
