Luke Bryan Has A Blunt Warning For Critics Trolling Him Over “Fish Hunt Golf Drink”

Luke Bryan is speaking out about the negative feedback his song “Fish Hunt Golf Drink” has received.
Mostly, he’s just tired of everyone accusing him of using AI to write the track. The American Idol judge released the song earlier this year as an early release from his upcoming album, Signs.
But the lyrics, which basically list the things he likes to do in his free time, have come across as robotic or generic to many people. That sparked an entire discussion about whether Luke actually wrote it himself.
The song’s chorus goes:
“Wake up, coffee / Camo, climb tree / Wet line, eighteen / Fish, hunt, golf, drink / All fall, all spring, all summer long / I’ll be livin’ it up and livin’ it on / A country boy’s dream / Fish, hunt, golf, drink”
On a recent episode of Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast, Luke sounded off on all the chatter surrounding “Fish Hunt Golf Drink.” And he isn’t holding back anymore when it comes to people trolling him online.
“That’s the crazy thing about where we’re at with social [media]. They started a narrative that we AI-ed it. And now, whether you like the song or not, or whether you like me as an artist, whether you like what I’m about or whatever … now I’m the guy that somebody said that I AI-ed a song and wrote it,” Luke said.
“You get one or two kids with a bunch of Instagram, a bunch of followers, that say we AI-ed it, and then the whole world goes on their narrative.”
Luke called the discourse “pretty crazy” and said he definitely didn’t expect all the backlash when he released the song.
It’s even gone so far that he’s seen videos of people targeting him and sending threats.
“I’m like, ‘I can see your face. If I see you one day, I’m going to f—ing knock the s— out of you, dude,’” he said. “People have lost their minds. I get, ‘I hate you, choke on your own vomit, die in your sleep.”
This isn’t the first time that Luke Bryan has spoken out about the AI allegations.
In June, he addressed the criticism while in Muirfield Village for the Memorial Pro-Am.
He spoke with NBC4, telling the outlet:
“We’ve had some negativity out there. Some trolls kinda saying that I ‘AI’-ed it, which is completely false.”
He continued, “That song was designed for one thing. To have fun and to tell the world what I love to do and what I strive to do.”
Whether you like the song or not, there is actually proof that Luke didn’t use AI to create it. He wrote the track with award-winning country songwriters Chase McGill and Matt Dragstrem.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, they came to Luke’s defense by telling the story of how the song actually came to be.
“Luke was texting one of his buddies and the guy was like, ‘Let’s hang soon,’” McGill recalled. “Luke sent him an emoji of a fish, an emoji of a deer, an emoji of a golf club, and a beer emoji, and said, ‘You pick which one.’ Then he showed it to us. He was like, ‘Dude, this could be a cool song.’”
Dragstrem added that they know “it’s not rocket science,” but he says “it’s true to who Luke is.”
