What’s Going On With Morgan Wallen?
Morgan Wallen’s charges have been reduced from their original felony status.
As a recap, Wallen was arrested in April of this year (2024) after allegedly throwing a chair off of Eric Church’s Chief’s bar in downtown Nashville. The chair landed a few feet away from two Metro Nashville police officers who were standing on the ground below.
Officers reviewed a video that appeared to show Wallen throwing the chair. Witnesses cited in the arrest report also claimed to see Wallen throw the chair.
According to News Channel 5, the “Sand in My Boots” singer was originally charged with “three counts of reckless endangerment for the two officers who were in the vicinity and for the danger to the public…Wallen was also charged with disorderly conduct.” The reckless endangerment charges were originally classified as felonies, while the disorderly conduct charge was classified as a misdemeanor.
Wallen took to X (formerly Twitter) two weeks after the arrest with a statement. He said:
“I didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks. I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s. I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility. I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe. Regarding my tour, there will be no change.”
Wallen later embarked on his massive One Night at a Time World Tour. Each show drew in thousands of fans, and Wallen was later named the CMA Entertainer of the Year.
He also experienced chart success with songs such as “I Had Some Help,” “Love Somebody,” and “Lies, Lies, Lies.”
Morgan Wallen’s Charges Have Been Reduced
Wallen’s tour ended in October, and he’s been laying low since then. More recently, news broke about an update in his legal case connected to his April arrest. The singer waived his preliminary hearing, and it was reported his case would move on to a grand jury. However, Wallen’s attorney later stated he would enter a plea in court on Thursday (December 12).
Nashville-based news station FOX 17 WZTV published a new update on Wednesday (December 11). According to the outlet, Wallen’s charges have been reduced from felonies to misdemeanors.
WZTV reports, “His current charges still include two counts of reckless endangerment without a weapon but will be charged as misdemeanors instead of felonies.”
On Thursday (December 12), The Tennessean reported that Wallen “pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, reduced from the three Class E felonies he was initially charged with.”
The outlet reported, “He will be incarcerated for seven days in a DUI education center. He will then be on supervised probation for two years.”
