Several news outlets have published reports about some disturbing and chilling claims written in one of the ransom notes sent after Nancy Guthrie disappeared earlier this year.
It’s believed that 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie was kidnapped from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on February 1st. Her case has attracted worldwide attention, with millions of people following every update.
Although there’s always been hope that Nancy would be found alive, recent reports indicate that she may be deceased. NBC News reported on Monday (June 22nd) that “three people familiar with the matter” said the second ransom note sent after Nancy disappeared stated that she had died.
According to NBC News‘ sources, this note didn’t contain an apology for Nancy’s purported death; however, the author “did express regret” about her passing. These sources also alleged that the note did not request any payment for the release of Nancy’s body.

CBS News, which cites “sources who reviewed the notes,” reports that the second ransom note in Nancy’s case “indicated that they did not mean for her to die.” The outlet reports that this note did not contain any demands for Nancy’s family or authorities.
ABC News shared a similar report. Citing their own unnamed sources, the outlet says the second ransom note indicated that Nancy Guthrie “died shortly after she was taken and was buried in nature.”
NBC News reports that the existence of this ransom note had always been known, but its contents had not been shared until now.
Savannah Guthrie Issues Tearful Response To Information About Mother Nancy Guthrie’s Potential Death
Nancy Guthrie is the mother of TODAY show host Savannah Guthrie. Savannah returned to work in April after taking an extended leave from the show in the midst of her mother’s disappearance.
When TODAY went on-air on Tuesday (June 23rd), Savannah shared a tearful response to the new reports about her mother’s potential passing.
“This is unusual and unprecedented, to say the least, to be sitting here,” she said.
Savannah said that she is not involved in NBC News‘ coverage of the ransom note’s alleged contents, even though TODAY is an NBC program.
“But I can’t pretend I’m not here,” she remarked. “And so since I am, I wanted to just take the opportunity to ask people, really to beg people, to come forward. Somebody knows something.”
She continued, saying, “This is a new story that today is on your radar, but this is the life that my sister lives, that I live, that my brother lives, that our extended families live, that our children live every day. And we are in agony, and we cannot be at peace.”
Savannah shared a plea for help, asking the audience to reach out if they know anything that could lead them to her mom. She referenced the $1 million reward their family is offering for Nancy’s recovery, saying:
“No matter how small, the reward is there. You can tell us. It can be anonymous. Please do the right thing for us, for our family, for our children. We love our mom, and we’ll never stop looking for her ever.”
