Nicole Kidman is learning to roll with the punches following her divorce from Keith Urban.

The actress opened up about navigating life during an interview with British Vogue. The 59-year-old described this new chapter as feeling like “free falling.”

News broke in September 2025 that Nicole had filed for divorce from country star Keith Urban after 19 years of marriage.

Their divorce was finalized in January 2026, with Nicole and Keith having shared custody of their two daughters, Sunday Rose (18) and Faith Margaret (15).

Since then, they have mostly kept their private family life out of the spotlight, and they appear to still be on good terms.

In June, Keith wished Nicole a happy birthday on social media, and a few days later, Nicole shared a Father’s Day tribute that included a photo of Keith.

Nicole Kidman Is Learning To “Adapt”

Nicole didn’t go into detail about her recent separation, but she did dive into how she’s chosen to handle the uncertainties life’s thrown her way lately.

She says that she’s always tackled issues with a “feelings first” approach.

“That’s just who I am. I don’t overthink things and I’m probably not that analytical,” she tells the outlet. “I’m far more feeling-centred and I lead with my heart. I just go, ‘OK, what do I feel here? I’ll give it a go.’”

She added, “I’ve always wanted to live a well-examined life, so what does that entail? Trying things, making mistakes, failing, getting back up, moving on, embracing love, staying open, keeping the heart open and the possibilities.”

Granted, this has been an especially difficult time for Nicole. She admits that going through a second divorce wasn’t how she imagined her life would turn out. She’s now learning to adjust to a future that looks very different from what she had planned.

“But at the same time I’m like, ‘OK, I didn’t expect this,” she continues. “I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now.’ You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it’s all going to be like and then it’s… not. You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it’s completely unknown to me right now.”

Nicole was faced with a choice: she could either let the problems overcome her, or she could keep moving forward.

Ultimately, she chose to keep going and have faith in whatever comes next.

“There was a point where I was very fearful and deeply vulnerable,” she admits, “which is exposing. And then at the same time [I’m] going, “Well, I can either really not confront it and just curl up, or I can just go forward with an enormous amount of hope.”

It’s also helped that Nicole has had strong women in her life to lean on. She credits her mother and other women mentors for teaching her how to approach difficult situations with the right mindset.

“Part of the way they approach life was sometimes [to say to me]: ‘Nicole, you just got to take it on the chin.’ Once you accept that, instead of going, ‘Well that’s not fair or it’s unjust,’ you go, ‘Well, yes, actually it isn’t fair. Because things are not fair.’”

“I know my character,” she says. “I know my talent. I know who I am. If I make a mistake and it doesn’t connect, or something goes wrong in my life where it’s humiliating, it’s OK.”

Nicole is currently promoting her upcoming film Practical Magic 2, which stars her and Sandra Bullock. It will be in theaters beginning September 11.

She is also starring in and executive producing the Taylor Sheridan series Lioness. The series aired its Season 3 premiere on August 2.
