Queen Latifah had a difficult decision to make during the Battle Rounds on The Voice as team members Luke Cope and BigCountry took the stage to perform Chris Stapleton’s hit song “Tennessee Whiskey.”
The two singers brought their own strengths to the popular country song, delivering a performance that gave their coach plenty to consider. With only one artist able to move forward on her team, Latifah had to weigh their individual growth, stage presence and vocal abilities before making her choice.

Originally recorded by David Allan Coe in 1981, the song gained widespread popularity through Chris Stapleton’s soulful rendition, which appeared on his 2015 debut solo album, Traveller. Stapleton’s version became a defining moment in his career, showcasing his powerful vocals and blending country music with blues and soul influences.
One of the standout elements of their performance was the incredible harmony Luke Cope and BigCountry brought to “Tennessee Whiskey.” Their voices blended beautifully, complementing one another in a way that elevated the performance and brought a soulful richness to the country classic.
Despite competing for the same spot on Team Queen Latifah, the two singers worked together seamlessly, showing off the kind of vocal chemistry that made their pairing so compelling. Their harmonies added another layer of emotion to the performance, making Latifah’s decision to choose just one of them all the more difficult.

Who Did Queen Latifah Choose To Move On?
Luke Cope impressed Latifah with how much he had grown throughout the competition. However, BigCountry’s commanding presence and natural confidence ultimately gave him the edge in the high-stakes battle.
Kelly Clarkson raved about their harmonies, while Adam Levine went as far as calling them “magical.” Riley Green admits he probably would choose Luke based on his high harmonies he delivered, but it wasn’t his decision to make.
Explaining her decision, Latifah praised both artists while making it clear why BigCountry stood out to her.
“Luke improved by leaps and bounds but BigCountry is a presence, a force to be reckoned with. So comfortable, so confident, full of energy, life and voice and ability. He is somebody everybody loved from the beginning,” she said.
Although Latifah ultimately chose BigCountry to continue in the competition, her comments made it clear that the decision was far from easy. Luke’s progress earned him recognition from his coach, while BigCountry’s ability to command the stage and connect with those around him helped secure his place in the next round.
