Randy Travis Prepares To Release New Music
Country music legend Randy Travis is preparing to release new, original music for the first time in nearly two decades.
The singer’s last studio album featuring original material, Around the Bend, arrived in 2008. During a recent visit to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Travis revealed that a new album of original songs is currently in the works.
Travis and fellow country artist Alexandra Kay gave patients and families at the hospital a special preview of the upcoming recordings. Kay also honored Travis’ legendary career by performing several of his biggest hits, including “Forever and Ever, Amen,” “I Told You So,” and “Deeper Than the Holler.”
Travis’ upcoming album represents a milestone years in the making following the country music legend’s life-changing health battle.
In 2013, Travis suffered a nearly fatal stroke that caused severe damage to the left side of his brain. The stroke resulted in expressive aphasia, affecting his ability to speak and sing, and left him requiring long-term wheelchair use.
The new project was assembled by Travis’ longtime producer, Kyle Lehning, who carefully worked with original recordings from throughout the singer’s career, remixing and remastering the tracks to create the album.
“I wrote this song with my longtime bus driver and dear friend Ron Avis, and it’s incredibly special to me that it’s been found in the archives,” Travis said with help from his wife Mary.
The first song from the forthcoming album, “Fish On,” was released on July 10th. To celebrate the release, Travis and team hid fishing bobbers attached to signed Polaroid photographs around Nashville, Tennessee.

On Tuesday (August 4), Travis shared a clip of an upcoming song that is set to release off the new album. Titled “I Don’t Care,” the song comes straight from the vault, according to Travis, and captures the classic sound that made him a country music icon.
“Having my longtime producer, Kyle Lehning, do what he does best has made bringing it back to life even more meaningful. I’ve always loved fishing and country music, and being able to share this song so many years later means a great deal to me,” said of the music.
Back on July 7, Travis visited St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, where he shared a preview of the album with patients and their families during a special event.
“There’s just no getting over the joy of sharing music with the people who’ve supported me through the years. It’s been an honor to share the love of country music with listeners of all ages for so many decades, and I feel truly blessed.”
