Randy Travis‘ 40th anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry will be commemorated with a special show this December.
The country legend first made his official Opry debut on March 7, 1986. He was introduced by Little Jimmy Dickens and performed Hank Williams’ classic “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry.”
Later that year, he was inducted as an official member of the Grand Ole Opry at just 27 years old. He performed his No. 1 hit “Diggin’ Up Bones” after being welcomed by fellow country singer Ricky Skaggs.
Over the years, the Opry remained a regular part of Randy’s career. In 2011, he celebrated his 25th anniversary in a special show featuring the late John Anderson and Carrie Underwood, whom Randy had the honor of inviting to become an Opry member just a few years earlier.

Despite his debilitating stroke in 2013, the “Forever and Ever, Amen” singer has continued to make appearances at the Opry, demonstrating how deeply he remains connected to country music and its community.
