“Let’s go, girls! Come on.”

That’s what fans of Shania Twain will be saying as they hop in line at their local movie theater to see a newly announced film about the country-pop artist.

Details are still fresh, but Deadline reported on June 3 that the film, titled Shania, is being produced by Sony Pictures.

What To Know About ‘Shania’

Attached to write and direct the film is Leah McKendrick, a filmmaker who previously wrote the film M.F.A. (2017) and wrote and directed Scrambled (2023) and the upcoming Netflix rom-com Voicemails for Isabelle (2026).

McKendrick wrote of the news on Instagram, saying, “Long before I was making movies, I was shooting Shania music videos in my bedroom. This wild-hearted force of a woman means so much to me — and the world.”

She added, “It is a surreal dream come true to get to bring her trailblazing, gut-punching, awe-inspiring story to the screen (and ride horses and eat pasta in the process!)”

Stating that she is “honored,” “humbled,” and “READY,” she concluded her post by writing the obligatory, “Let’s go, girls.”

The film has not yet been cast, but this could prove to be a well-sought-after role for actresses in Hollywood.

It remains unclear which aspects of Shania’s life will be dramatized in the film, but Shania is simply described as a “biopic.”

Consider the range of moments to depict in her career, which has seen the Canadian artist win five Grammy Awards, star in several iconic music videos, and more.

While she did not provide comment, Shania Twain did share Deadline‘s article announcing the deal to produce the film on her story on Instagram.

News of the upcoming film comes about a month before the release of her seventh studio album, Little Miss Twain, which is expected to be released on July 24.

A release date for McKendrick’s film Shania has not yet been announced.

Of course, country music is no stranger to cinema, with films like Coal Miner’s Daughter (1980) and Walk The Line (2005) being some of the biggest biopics of their day.

Even films like Robert Altman’s revered ensemble drama Nashville (1975) and Peter Bogdanovich’s The Thing Called Love (1993) capture the drama built into the fabric of the country music scene.

Early next year, a country music comedy written by and starring Glenn Powell, titled The Comeback King, is expected to be released in theaters.
