THE VOICE: Riley Green Hides Behind His Hat After Another Coach Charms The Singer He Wanted

Riley Green may be new to The Voice, but he’s already well-aware of how competitive the show can be.
Season 30 of The Voice started on Monday, September 21. The multi-night premiere continued on September 22, with that episode introducing viewers to Alt Bloom, a 36-year-old singer from Whitefish, Montana.
Bloom put a unique spin on Maren Morris‘ “The Bones” during his blind audition. The song reached #1 on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts, and also peaked at #12 on the all-genre Hot 100 chart.
Additionally, “The Bones” was named the CMA’s Single and Song of the Year in 2020 and won the ACM Award for Song of the Year in 2021.

The Voice coaches were clearly impressed with Bloom’s different approach to “The Bones.” Coach Queen Latifah was the first to turn her chair, just a few seconds into Bloom’s performance.
She seemed to be loving every second, as she kept dancing around in her chair after flipping around. For a while, it looked like she would be the only one to turn, but then, Green pressed his button in the hopes of claiming Bloom for his team.
That’s when the showdown began!
Riley Green Left At A Loss For Words After Queen Latifah’s Convincing Pitch To Alt Bloom On “The Voice”
Since “The Bones” was a country hit, you’d think that Alt Bloom would have leaned toward choosing Riley Green as his coach. But he shared that he loves all genres, and therefore, was open to hearing out both Green and Queen Latifah.
Green spoke first, telling Bloom:
“There’s always a struggle when people sing a song, and you know it, and you hear it a certain way. And what took me a second with that one was I wanted to hear you do it different, and you did.”
Green continued to say, “You made that song your own. It had a lot of soul in it. It had a little bluesy feel to it. You have a great voice. I wouldn’t know what genre to put that song in, which was awesome about it. It just felt right.”
When it was her turn to talk, Queen Latifah showered Bloom with compliments, saying:
“This was a no-brainer for me. I have no one on my team that sounds like you. You sound amazing.”
She kept the praise coming, adding, “When you got into some of those higher registers, all it did was show me you had more. You just need to figure out where to place it and when to place it. And that’s easy to do with the right song, with the coaching that will be provided on team Queen. You needn’t worry about nothin'”
From there, Queen Latifah kicked things up a notch by singing part of her plea. Two backup singers appeared out of nowhere to accompany her as she made her way onstage, singing:
“If you get with the Queen, then I’ll get you that trophy…”
Green knew he was toast after that. Left at a loss for words, his only response was to hide behind his cowboy hat in defeat.
But Green didn’t give up right away. He put in one last effort to convince Bloom to join his team, telling him:
“[It] doesn’t seem fair what just happened, but, I also have nobody like you on my team…sorry that I don’t have any dancers…”
However, at the end of the day, Queen Latifah’s pitch was just too charming to resist. Bloom picked her to be his coach, leaving Green wishing things had turned out differently!
