One of the most enchanting performances in the Yellowstone prequel series 1923 came from Julia Schlaepfer, who played Alexandra “Alex” Dutton.

The series also starred Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Brandon Sklenar, Aminah Nieves, Michelle Randolph, and Darren Mann. After two seasons, the show ended with a heartbreaking finale on April 6, 2025.

Alex was a wealthy Englishwoman who was engaged to a prince when she met Spencer Dutton (played by Brandon Sklenar) in Africa. Alex and Spencer fell madly in love, and their whirlwind romance captivated viewers throughout the show’s first season.

Sadly, Alex and Spencer, who were secretly married by a boat captain, were separated at the end of Season 1. Alex spent the entirety of Season 2 fighting her way to and through America to reunite with Spencer in Montana, where he returned to help his family amid an intense conflict.

We won’t spoil the ending of Spencer and Alex’s story here. But we will say, after delivering such a riveting performance, the 1923 finale left fans eager to see what Julia Schlaepfer would do next.

Where Is Julia Schlaepfer Now?

What happened to Julia Schlaepfer after 1923 ended, and is she still acting?

1923 was only Schlaepfer’s fifth TV performance. She had previously been cast in single-episode roles in Madam Secretary, Instinct, and American Horror Stories. Beyond that, she appeared in all 15 episodes of the 2019-2020 Netflix series The Politician.

Also, before 1923, Schlaepfer starred in the films Charlie Says and The Sky Is Everywhere.

Schlaepfer has not appeared in anything since 1923 ended. However, her IMDb page indicates that she has three projects in the works: two movies and one TV series.

Schlaepfer was cast as a character named Liz in the upcoming TV series How to Survive Without Me. The show, which is an HBO Max pilot, also stars major names such as Ray Romano, Joshua Jackson, Kaley Cuoco, and Rita Wilson.

Variety cites the show’s logline, which reads:

“In the wake of matriarch Beverly’s (Wilson) passing, the De Angelis family have begun to drift, unsure how to manage their complicated, evolving lives without her guidance, but in true Beverly fashion, she found a way to keep running the show from the beyond. Should they wish to experience Beverly’s final work, the family must find the time — and make the effort — to remain connected and be there for each other through all of life’s challenges yet to come.”

Additionally, Schlaepfer is slated to appear in the films Rooster and The Bard, both of which are in post-production. Neither movie has an established release date at the time of this writing.
