What Happened To “1923” Star Brandon Sklenar After His Breakthrough Role As Spencer Dutton?

Following the success of the Yellowstone prequel series 1883, we got more of the Dutton family’s backstory in another spin-off, 1923. The show starred Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, Julia Schlaepfer, and Brandon Sklenar.
Brandon Sklenar was born in Dover, New Jersey, on June 26, 1990. He moved to California after graduating from high school, and began pursuing an acting career.
Early credits in Sklenar’s filmography include roles in shows such as Truth Be Told, Westworld, and New Girl, as well as appearances in movies like Temple, Mapplethorpe, and Midway.
Sklenar’s breakthrough moment came when he was cast as Spencer Dutton in 1923. Spencer was a dashing and daring big-game hunter and World War I veteran living and working in Africa. But when he learned about his family’s troubles in Montana, he rushed back home to help them.
He also found love along the way, falling for a wealthy Englishwoman named Alexandra, otherwise known as “Alex.”

When Spencer raced to America to defend the Yellowstone ranch in Season 2, he and Alex had to go their separate ways. Alex embarked on a journey of her own, determined to reunite with her sweetheart.
We won’t spoil the show’s finale for you here, but we will say that the happiness the couple felt upon their eventual reunion was sadly short-lived.
1923 ended in April 2025, and Sklenar’s star has continued rising ever since.
What Is 1923 Actor Brandon Sklenar Doing Now?
The first season of 1923 premiered in December 2022, suddenly making Brandon Sklenar one of the biggest names in the business. He became even more well-known after he played Atlas Corrigan in the 2024 film It Ends With Us (which premiered between seasons of 1923).
2025 was the most eventful year of Sklenar’s career thus far. In January, he played one of the main characters in the drama film Green and Gold.
A few months after that, the second and final season of 1923 ended on April 6. Then, just five days later, Sklenar’s next film, Drop, debuted in theaters.
2025 ended on an eventful note as Sklenar starred in the psychological thriller The Housemaid, which premiered in theaters on December 19. He played Andrew Winchester alongside Amanda Seyfried (Nina Winchester) and Sydney Sweeney (Millie Calloway).
Sklenar hasn’t appeared in anything new in 2026, but he has several things in the works. His IMDb page currently lists six “upcoming” projects, including a short titled Favorites, which is labeled “completed.”
Here’s what we know about everything else Sklenar has lined up:
- After Shock – Purchased by Lionsgate, this project will center on an earthquake, with Sklenar being the first star attached to the concept. Deadline reports that it “is said to have the feel of Signs and Nope with the natural disaster sweep of Twisters.” IMDb states that After Shock is in pre-production.
- Iron Jane – This film follows a character named Janie John as she enters the world of female bodybuilding. However, as her physical strength increases, her mental health plummets. Variety reports that Janie will be played by Eiza González, while Sklenar will portray her coach and a former bodybuilding champion. IMDb says the movie is currently filming.
- Vegas: A Love Story – Deadline has described Vegas: A Love Story as “a sensual romance with thriller elements.” Sklenar was cast as Freddy, described by Deadline as “a welder and single father struggling to rebuild his life.” He’ll star alongside Maika Monroe, Paul Dano, Michael Shannon, and Judy Greer in the film. IMDb says the movie is in post-production.
- The Rescue – PEOPLE got the first look at one of Sklenar’s upcoming films, The Rescue, which the outlet labeled a “modern Western.” Sklenar will play a former rodeo cowboy on a mission to rescue his kidnapped daughter, with her beloved dog joining him on the quest. The film unites Sklenar with another former member of the Yellowstone universe, Hassie Harrison, who played Laramie on the main series. The Rescue will premiere on January 29, 2027.
Brandon Sklenar Is Making A New Film With Taylor Sheridan
As if all of that isn’t exciting enough, Sklenar is reuniting with Yellowstone and 1923 creator Taylor Sheridan for another project. He will play the lead character in the Sheridan-written film F.A.S.T., with Deadline describing the premise as such:
“…[F.A.S.T.] follows a former special forces commando tapped by the DEA to lead a black-ops strike team against CIA-protected drug dealers.”
The movie, which also stars Sam Claflin, Juliana Canfield, Trevante Rhodes, LaKeith Stanfield, and Jason Clarke, was originally slated for theatrical release on April 23, 2027. But Warner Bros. delayed the release, pushing the premiere date back a few weeks to May 14, 2027.
