The Fate Of American Idol Has Been Revealed
During this time of year, all the TV networks announce their decisions on which shows will return for another season and which have been cancelled. Occasionally, they will reveal new shows to expect in the fall.
On Friday (May 9), ABC revealed the fates of most of its TV shows: Abbott Elementary, 9-1-1, Dancing With The Stars, Bachelor In Paradise, The Golden Bachelor, Wheel of Fortune, Shark Tank, and American Idol.
American Idol‘s History
The show premiered on June 11, 2002. For 15 years, the show ran uninterrupted and produced some of the biggest talent, whether they won the show or not.
Names like Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, Katharine McPhee, Jordin Sparks, Kellie Pickler, and Adam Lambert are just a few that we would have never known had it not been for the singing competition show.

After 15 seasons on Fox, American Idol was cancelled, airing its final episode on April 7, 2016.
But just one year later, ABC announced it would revive the series with longtime host Ryan Seacrest returning. Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan were revealed to be the new judges.
Season 16 premiered in 2018, and fans have loved the show’s revival so much that they are nearing the end of Season 23. Carrie Underwood took Perry’s place at the judges’ table following the “Roar” singer’s departure after Season 22.
Will American Idol Be Coming Back For Season 24?
Was American Idol one of the shows that ABC will be bringing back? Yes!
Thanks to the incredible stories and talent on Idol this season, fans continue to tune in to the longtime singing competition show, making it a no-brainer for ABC to bring it back for a 24th season.
