“American Idol” Releases Teaser Trailer For Season Premiere

American Idol debuts on February 18, and they just released the first trailer for the upcoming season!

On November 16, 2023, the singing competition show’s judges – Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie – and host Ryan Seacrest announced they will be back for a new season, which will premiere on February 18, 2024.

This year marks Season 22, but the seventh season on ABC.

The show was on Fox for 15 seasons before it was cancelled in 2016. Notable winners include Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia Barino – who is currently starring in the movie The Color Purple – Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, and many more.

Shortly after the cancellation, ABC picked it up and premiered Season 16 on March 11, 2018. Maddie Poppe was the winner that year, followed by Laine Hardy (Season 17), Just Sam (Season 18), Chayce Beckham (Season 19), Noah Thompson (Season 20), and most recently, Iam Tongi (Season 21).

Each season, the premiere trailer has a different theme. This year, the theme is Wizard of Oz!

As the only woman of the bunch, it was easy to select Katy Perry as Dorothy. She was clad in sparkly red heels, white socks, and a blue dress to look the part. Lionel Richie appeared in a furry lined coat as the Lion, Ryan Seacrest was donning a silver suit as the Tin Man, and Luke Bryan wore a patched jacket to resemble the Scarecrow.

Perry stepped on the yellow brick road, which was now the Golden Ticket Road, and the quartet followed it until they reached the gates of Oz, aka Hollywood! They traveled through the hometowns of several notable Idol alumni including Burleson, Texas (Kelly Clarkson’s hometown), Checotah, Oklahoma (Carrie Underwood’s hometown), Kahuku, Hawaii (Iam Tongi’s hometown), and San Diego, California (Adam lambert’s hometown).

Interestingly, Adam Lambert is the only alumni in the teaser that did not win. Though, he is among the most successful artists that have come out of the show! 

Their travel along the Golden Ticket Road symbolizes all the different locations they go to hold auditions and all the artist that come from all walks of life.
