During a concert at Phoenix’s Ak-Chin Pavilion in May of 2017, Chris Stapleton gave one young fan a treat he will never forget.

8-year-old Vedder Ellis was invited to join the megastar on stage for the most anticipated song of the night….”Tennessee Whiskey.” The mohawk-wearing Ellis was led to the stage by Stapleton’s wife Morgane. Mic in hand, young Ellis began singing, much to the delight of the crowd.

According to a post to Ellis’s Facebook page, the grade schooler was a huge fan of the late Chris Cornell and was mourning his recent death when the invite to join Chris Stapleton came along.

“Vedder had a tough week with the passing of one of his favorite artists Chris Cornell. It was destiny that KMLE Country 107.9 upgraded our seats to Pit Passes and the rest is history,” Ellis’s parents wrote. “Our son has been singing since before he could talk and his whole world is music. Thanks to Chris Stapleton and his beautiful wife Morgane Stapleton for creating such an amazing moment for Vedder.”
