Mel McDaniel And Hank Williams Jr. Join Forces For Toe-Tappin’ ‘Louisiana Saturday Night’

In the 1980s, Hank Williams Jr. gathered some of country music’s biggest names for a rockin’ party and tribute to our great nation called Star Spangled Country.

The special included performances from Hank Jr.’s “rowdy friends” Jessi Colter, Waylon Jennings, Earl Thomas Conley, and Gus Hardin to name a few. He also surprised his fans with a few unannounced performers, which included country singer Mel McDaniel.

Hank Jr. brought him out so they could duet to his hit song “Louisiana Saturday Night”. The two singers traded off the lead for the verses but joined together for the chorus.

One viewer noticed Hank Jr. was playing the fiddle during this performance and commented, “Is there an instrument Bocephus cannot play?”

It is a completely valid question, and we’re pretty sure the answer is, “No!”

“Louisiana Saturday Night” is a pure country track released on McDaniel’s 1980 album I’m Countryfied, written by Bob McDill. It reached the Top Ten on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and was the long-standing theme song for “The Outdoorsman Show”, a radio show in New Orleans.
