These Two Go Way Back

Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins have been friends for decades. In fact, Shelton regards Adkins as his main mentor, saying he helped encourage and support him in the early years of his career.

Since Adkins was one of the main influencers in his life, Shelton felt he’d be the perfect person to have join him on The Voice.

To lead up to the premiere of the battles, The Voice released a series of behind-the-scenes clips introducing each coach, their teams, and advisor. In the clips, the coaches and advisors share some history about their relationships and where they first met.

How Did These Two Meet?

Where Shelton and Adkins are concerned, Shelton remembers first seeing him at the most iconic of all venues in country music. Listening to him talk, it’s clear that he still maintains the same level of respect for Adkins as he did back then.

The first time I remember seeing you was the show at the Ryman.” Shelton said, “And you…already had big hits, and I was brand-new coming up.

Later on, Shelton recalled one of the earliest shows they played together. He said it was at the Blindhorse Saloon in Greenville, which got a knowing response from Adkins.

Blake Can’t Help But Joke Around

Of course, Shelton couldn’t keep it too serious for too long, and he decided that was the perfect time to throw in some teasing. Saw you yelling at people backstage,” he said.

Adkins was quick to call Shelton out on his ridiculous remark. He cracked a smile as he accused him of fibbing, “Oh you did not, he said. “You lying.”

These two are a hoot! Watching this behind-the-scenes clip will make you wish that Adkins was on The Voice again!
