Carrie Underwood Will Perform The Sunday Night Football Opener For The 12th Year In A Row
After performing the opener for Sunday Night Football since 2013, Carrie Underwood is returning to do it again for the 12th consecutive time!
The SNF theme has undergone several changes since Underwood stepped into the role. But last year (2023), Underwood revamped the original “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” theme. The song is based on Joan Jett‘s classic hit, “I Hate Myself for Loving You.”
Last year’s SNF opening theme was filmed at Resorts World Las Vegas, where Underwood has an ongoing residency. You can watch that opener in the video below.
What Do We Know About The SNF Theme For The 2024-2025 NFL Season?
On Wednesday (August 21), the SNF team and Underwood announced that she’ll be returning to sing the opening theme for the 2024-2025 NFL season.
The brief announcement read:
“It’s a road show like no other…Carrie Underwood stars in her 12th consecutive show open for Sunday Night Football beginning September 8 on NBC and Peacock.”
According to a press release from NBC Sports, the new opener “celebrates the SNF ‘road show’ that visits NFL cities each weekend, embracing the pageantry and anticipation for each matchup.”

For the second year in a row, Underwood recorded the opener at Resorts World Las Vegas.
“It was so much fun to welcome the Sunday Night Football team back to the Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas,” Underwood said. “Shooting the new show open is always something I look forward to, and Tripp and the whole creative team brought it yet again, and we had a great day putting on an exciting new performance. Like everybody else, I’m waiting all day for Sunday night!”
A preview of Underwood’s new opener will debut during the Patriots and Commanders preseason game on Sunday (August 25) at 8 PM ET on NBC and Peacock. The full opener will premiere on September 8 before the Ram and Lions game on NBC and Peacock.
