Chris Stapleton Brings The House Down With Surprise “Drink A Beer” Duet With Luke Bryan

The “Luke Bryan & Friends” show in Nashville was a famous affair, and Chris Stapleton delivered one of the most memorable collaborations of the night.
On Thursday, September 24th, Luke Bryan brought a slew of his country music superstar friends to Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena for a star-studded concert event. In celebration of his brand-new album Signs, the evening integrated new music with his catalog of hits from nearly two decades of making music.
Billed as “Luke Bryan & Friends,” the show promised attendees surprise guest performances, but did not reveal exactly who would take the stage. Special appearances were made by Carrie Underwood, Darius Rucker, Dierks Bentley, Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, and Chris Stapleton, revealed one by one as the show went on.
Before the show began, Luke himself was surprised backstage when executives from the RIAA presented him with two Diamond plaques, certifying that his songs “Country Girl (Shake It For Me)” and “Play It Again” have officially passed 1 billion units sold. He reacted to the honor and wrote:
“Thank you Nashville for continuing to make my dreams come true. I’m lucky to have the best team, family and fans in the world.”
Chris Stapleton Performs With Luke Bryan In Nashville
The final guest performer of the night was none other than Chris Stapleton. The crowd went wild when he took the stage for an unexpected duet of “Drink A Beer.”
“Drink A Beer” was written by Jim Beavers and Chris Stapleton. It was recorded and released by Luke Bryan in November 2013 as the third single from his fourth studio album, Crash My Party. Just four months later, it topped the Billboard Country Airplay chart, becoming the seventh number-one hit of Luke’s career.
The ballad, which reflects on the loss of a loved one, resonated deeply with Luke after he lost both of his siblings. He once described the song as “the coolest sad song ever.”
