Ella Langley Speaks Up About The Intense Criticism She Receives & How She Handles It

Ella Langley has been one of the fastest-rising stars not just in country music history, but music history as a whole. She’s been around for years, but experienced her first breakthrough moment following the release of “you look like you love me” with Riley Green in 2024.
Their duet won the CMA Awards for Music Event of the Year and Single of the Year in 2024 and the Music Video of the Year Award in 2025. It also won three categories at the 2025 ACM Awards: Single of the Year, Visual Media of the Year, and Music Event of the Year.
Then, in October 2025, Langley dropped the song that changed her life. “Choosin’ Texas” was the first track she released from her then-upcoming album, Dandelion. The song eventually topped both of Billboard‘s country charts and the all-genre Hot 100.
At the time of this writing, “Choosin’ Texas” has spent 24 non-consecutive weeks at #1 on the Hot 100. After reaching week 23, the song broke the record for the longest-running #1 song on the chart, which was previously held by Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
Additionally, the track has been at #1 on the Hot Country Songs chart for 42 weeks and counting.

With more eyes on her than ever before, Ella Langley has attracted millions of new fans, but also a fair share of new critics. Most take aim at her recent success, questioning if she and “Choosin’ Texas” are “worthy” of the accolades and achievements they’ve earned.
Other critics examine Langley’s every word and move under a microscope, searching for something they can find “wrong” with her personality, appearance, or interactions.
Langley is well aware of such comments, and she issued the perfect response to them during one of her recent concerts.
Ella Langley Explains Why The Criticism “Bothered” Her At First, But Now She Looks At Things Differently
Before singing “Loving Life Again” at her show in Columbus, Ohio, Ella Langley delivered a short speech. She touched on the intense criticism she’s received in the past year, explaining how it affected her at first.
“I don’t think I’ve ever had more opinions on myself in my life than I have in this last year,” she said, “…the way I look, the way I speak, the way I dress, the way I move, the way I sing, the way I write.”
She continued to say, “At first, it bothered me; I won’t even lie.”
Langley admitted that she didn’t know if she was “strong enough” to handle so much criticism, despite her love for her career. But then her mindset shifted.
She told the audience:
“But then I really got to think about it, and I started to think about the girl that they’re kind of picking on is the girl that got me where I’m sitting here today.”
Langley said her past self hit the road and spent “night after night” pursuing her passion while living on tip jar money and whatever food she could order at bars along the way. She was running on nothing “but a dream and the ability to get up and do it every single day.”
Langley ended her speech by saying:
“So I’m gonna tell you right now, I am proud of that girl that everybody seems to be picking on a little bit.”
