During the Top 8 round of American Idol on Monday, April 29, contestant Emmy Russell delivered a touching rendition of “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” a song the judges chose for her to sing.

Written by her late grandmother, Loretta Lynn, her performance deeply moved the audience, with Katy Perry and others visibly emotional.

Sitting at the piano, Emmy’s heartfelt delivery resonated with the judges and her fellow competitors, showcasing a side of her that had not been seen before. The performance was described as incredibly moving and marked a standout moment in the competition, solidifying her position in the Top 7.

Emmy Russell recently shared a vulnerable video on social media in which she emotionally described her experience of playing “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and its deep impact on her.

After watching the video of her performance on Idol back, she expressed how she found peace and experienced a special healing moment.

Emmy began by expressing her overwhelming gratitude for the events unfolding in her life, acknowledging the highs and lows that everyone experiences.

“Guys, I’m just laying on my bed with so much gratitude for just everything that’s been going on. You know, we all have highs, and we have lows, and then you find out that this low was because of this, and this high was because of this…”

Continuing on, Emmy shared a vision she had while listening to her performance of the song, describing a profound moment of spiritual connection with her late grandmother.

“I just was closing my eyes and I was listening back to “Coal Miner’s Daughter” whenever I did it on American Idol. I just saw a vision of just me being up in Heaven and I just felt like I saw God just bringing my grandma and me just really giving her a deep hug of like, ‘I miss you and I love you.’ And I feel like you get it now. Just another side just brought all that healing to my heart.”

Reflecting on the experience, Emmy emphasized the importance of finding closure and healing, expressing her gratitude for the support she has received and encouraging others to embrace their calling in life.

“Just, thank you all for seriously just being so supportive. I’m so shocked and I’m really grateful and I just wanted to say thank you. We’re all called to something great, and whoever is watching this, you’re called to something, and nothing can take that away from you.”

Fans responded by flooding the comment section of Emmy’s video with messages of support and admiration for her performance and authenticity.

A few of Emmy’s fellow Idol contestants from this season also left encouraging comments on her post.

Mackenzie Sol, who was eliminated after making the Top 20, expressed, “You deserve this Emmy.” Additionally, Jordan Anthony, who was eliminated during the Top 12 night, shared, “You deserve every bit of it.” Quintavious, who was eliminated before reaching the Top 14, chimed in with, “The Lord cares!”
