Emmy Russell, the granddaughter of Loretta Lynn, has been one of the most talked about contestants on this season of American Idol.

Singer/songwriter Emmy Russell first caught the attention of American Idol judges and viewers during her audition. She sang a raw, original song titled “Skinny,” which reflects on her struggles with body image and an eating disorder.

After that, she soared through the different rounds of the show, continuously impressing with a mixture of original songs and covers. This week, Emmy performed as one of the top five contestants during the show’s semi-final round.
