Hayden Panettiere was a beloved actress and singer known for her roles in shows and films such as Remember the Titans, Heroes, Ice Princess, and Nashville. She inspired so many people, not only with her performances, but with her openness about the struggles she faced in life.

Sadly, that life came to an end on August 16, 2026. Authorities in Greenville, South Carolina, stated that they responded to a call about an unresponsive woman shortly before 2 PM on August 16. The woman was later identified as 36-year-old Hayden, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The news of Hayden’s death was confirmed by her father, Skip, who issued a statement saying, “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden.

Hayden’s former co-stars and famous friends took to social media to honor her with tributes and share their grief over her loss. But the most heart-wrenching post came from Wladimir Klitschko, Hayden’s ex-fiancé and the father of her daughter, Kaya.

Wlad, a former world champion boxer from Ukraine, shared a message on Instagram alongside a picture of himself, Hayden, and Kaya (whose face is covered).

“Our family is going through a time of profound shock and grief,” Wlad wrote. “The announcement of Hayden’s tragic death saddens me deeply. She left this world far too soon. Hayden was, although no longer my partner, an important part of my life and the mother of our daughter, Kaya.”

Wlad celebrated Hayden’s talent and highlighted how she built her career “while also facing the darker sides of a very demanding industry.”

As he neared the end of his message, he made an emotional vow to their daughter, writing:

“To our daughter Kaya, I will always speak of her mother with respect and make sure she remembers the person she was.”

Wlad ended his post with a request for privacy during this difficult time. He thanked those who already reached out with comforting messages and kind words.

“Rest easy, Hayden. May you find eternal peace,” he wrote in closing.

Hayden Panettiere’s Relationship With Wladimir Klitschko, Explained

Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko began dating in 2009. They had an on-and-off relationship for nine years and welcomed Kaya in 2014.

The couple broke up in 2018. Hayden, who struggled with postpartum depression and addiction after giving birth to Kaya, gave full custody of her daughter to Wlad.

During an interview in May of this year, Hayden told podcaster Jay Shetty that Kaya “had a beautiful life” in Europe, where Wlad lived, and that she has lots of family and friends over there. She was also learning several languages (and can now speak five).

“So, by the time I finally got healthy, I felt like it would have been unfair of me to…and selfish of me to try to pull her out, away from this life…” Hayden said.

Still, Hayden described her relationship with her daughter as “incredible.” She traveled to visit her as often as she could, and spoke to her on FaceTime all the time.

Hayden and Wlad also remained close after their split, with Hayden telling Us Weekly earlier this year:

“I’m so grateful for Wlad. We’re very close, and have had a deep friendship, along with a relationship, since I met him when I was 19.”

She continued to say, “So to see that we still have this bond and the ability to coparent and show our daughter [that] even though we’re not together, doesn’t mean that there’s a lack of love here, and it doesn’t mean that you’re unsafe.”

Our prayers go out to Wlad, Kaya, and to all who knew and loved Hayden Panettiere. May she rest in peace…
