Rex Linn was Reba McEntire’s rock during tough times.

Many Reba McEntire fans don’t know that after the country music superstar lost her momma, she came close to quitting singing for good.

“Oh I didn’t want to (sing). I told my little sister Susie when we were working at the house, I said, ‘I don’t know if I want to sing anymore.’ She said, ‘Why?’ I said, ‘Because I always sang for Mama,’” McEntire said on Tuesday during an appearance on TODAY .

However, while grieving, a beacon of support came into Reba’s life – her boyfriend, Rex Linn. Rex has been there helping Reba navigate the tough times. Sharing life’s highs and lows with someone can significantly ease the burden, and for Reba, Rex was that pillar of strength and positivity.

When you have somebody to share the grief with, when you have somebody to share the fun (and) the sad times, it’s always so much better,” she said. “And Rex is a very uplifting, positive man, and I love him with all my heart.”

Reba’s moments with her mother when she was a kid.

Reba’s mother, Jacqueline McEntire, passed away in 2020 at the age of 93 and as you can imagine, it’s not been easy for Reba without her momma.

“Mama was the one that inspired us kids, taught us kids how to sing, took us to our singing gigs and was our biggest cheerleader,” she said. “We didn’t have radio in the car. It was four kids in the backseat, rough-housing and, you know, Mama would get us to sing to pass the time. We were the singing McEntires.”

Jacqueline’s influence on Reba’s music was major, according to the country music superstar. “I always sang for Mama,” Reba confessed. Reba recalled her mother had once dreamed of a singing career herself and ended up seeing that dream realized through her daughter.
