News broke on Monday, June 15 that singer Jelly Roll (Jason DeFord) had filed for divorce from his wife of almost 10 years, Bunnie Xo (Alisa DeFord).

TMZ reported that the reason for the split is listed as “irreconcilable differences.” The divorce paperwork also revealed that the separation date was May 9, about a week before Jelly Roll filed for the divorce.

Jelly Roll has retained Rose Palermo as his counsel. Pop culture fans might recognize her name as the lawyer who represented Kristin Cavallari in her divorce from former NFL player Jay Cutler.

This shocked fans, since they often gushed about one another in public, on social media, and elsewhere. Most recently, they were together at the beginning of May to celebrate Jelly Roll’s daughter, Bailee Ann, going to prom.

They seemed happier than ever recently. One day after their listed date of separation, Bunnie shared a video of her, Bailee Ann, and Jelly Roll, in honor of Mother’s Day with the caption, “Never believed in ever after happily ’till y’all,” on the video.

Jelly Roll broke his silence on the divorce during a tour stop in New York.

Jelly Roll returned to touring just days after news broke about his divorce. His show was at Rogers Stadium in Toronto, Ontario, in The Big Ass Stadium Tour Part 2 with Post Malone.

On June 18, he resumed his solo Little Ass Shed Tour in Saratoga Springs, New York. He addressed the split in a brief statement to the crowd, telling them to get their cell phones out because it would be the only time he talks about it.

“While we’re talking about liars, the internet is a liar, too. It’s the only time and the only city I’m going to speak about this, so break your camera phones out now,” he said.

“Me and my wife are best friends. We will always be best friends.”

He added that there was no cheating involved in their split, and encouraged his fans to watch Bunnie’s podcast episode that was released Thursday evening.

“You can go watch it. Every word of it is the truth. That will be my best friend forever. This is the only time I will ever speak about it. Bunnie, I love you, baby. Thank you for those 10 years. They were incredible. Thank you for the next 10 years of friendship, and 20 beyond that.”
