Jelly Roll Says He Doesn’t Want to Win Entertainer Of The Year

The 58th Annual CMA Awards are set to air on November 20, with the official nominees announced back in September.

Jelly Roll is up for three of the night’s most prestigious awards: Album of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and the top honor, Entertainer of the Year.

His streak of landing nominations in major categories follows his incredible breakout year when he was up for five awards at last year’s CMA Awards and took home New Artist of the Year. Now, just a year later, with his first-ever nomination for Entertainer of the Year, you’d think Jelly Roll would be excited. However, he’s made it clear that he doesn’t actually want to win the title.

During an interview with Taste of Country Nights, the “Need a Favor” singer shared what it was like when he found out about his nominations. Admitting that he wasn’t familiar with the process after being nominated, he reached out to his publicist for guidance.

“When I was nominated for these [three] awards, and I called my publicist, and I said, ‘I don’t know how this works, but do we campaign for one?,'” Jelly Roll said.

Jelly Roll continued by saying that his publicist asked him which award he wanted to win, assuming he would naturally want to take home Entertainer of the Year. However, Jelly Roll’s response was surprising.

“‘I don’t want to win Entertainer of the Year,” he admitted. “I wanna win Collab of the Year, I wanna win Event of the Year.'”

Why wouldn’t Jelly Roll want to win the biggest award of the show? Well, his reason is actually quite sentimental to him.

“‘Cause ‘Save Me’ meant so much to me, man,” he explained. “It was the song that did it. It was the song that changed my whole life, then went on to radio and changed my life again.”

“Save Me” was released in 2020 and is often credited with launching Jelly Roll’s country music career. As his biggest hit to date, the song was re-recorded as a duet with Lainey Wilson and released as the second single from his ninth studio album, Whitsitt Chapel, in 2023.

Jelly Roll continued,”And then to see, come four years later and this song has helped millions of people and I’m winning a f***ing award for it? I’m like, ‘Get out, this is crazy.'”

Jelly Roll’s New Song Is Going Viral

Even though “Save Me” will always hold a special place in his heart, Jelly Roll has plenty of other music that has resonated with his fans. Recently, he released his new album Beautifully Broken. With 22 tracks, it’s the largest music drop of his career, and one song in particular is capturing the hearts of listeners.

One new track from the Beautifully Broken Deluxe Digital Album, titled “Past Yesterday,” is going viral on social media. The song tells the heartbreaking story of a sexual assault victim trying to move “Past Yesterday.” Jelly Roll is joined by Skylar Grey, who sings from the first-person perspective, while Jelly Roll narrates the story. Sexual assault survivors have been posting their reactions and personal experiences with the song, many overwhelmed by the touching lyrics of Jelly Roll’s song.
