Luke Bryan Reveals The Truth Behind A Lyric That Fans Have Questioned For Years
on Jun 23, 2026

Luke Bryan is finally clearing up the meaning behind a very confusing song lyric.
Luke’s smash hit “Country Girl (Shake It for Me)” is without a doubt one of the biggest songs of his career.
Released in 2011 as the lead single from his album Tailgates & Tanlines, the track quickly became a fan favorite for its fun, party vibes. It went on to peak at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 and made history as the third best-selling song ever by a male country solo artist at the time.

But there’s always been one part of the song that has left fans scratching their heads.
Near the middle of the track, the lyric “Somebody’s sweet little farmer’s child / With a gattle in her / Bud to get a little wild,” has never really made sense to listeners.
And now, more than a decade later, Luke is explaining the famous line.

Luke Bryan Says We’ve Been Singing The Lyric Wrong
Luke was recently interviewed by K102 radio, and during the conversation, they decided to get to the bottom of the confusing lyric.
Luke finally gave the explanation we’ve all been waiting for… and the answer might surprise you.
Despite what’s been listed on official lyric websites, it turns out that’s not actually the lyric at all. According to Luke, “they have it wrong.”
“That is misdone,” Luke says about online publishing of the lyric.
He reveals, “It’s ‘Got it in her blood to get a little wild.'”
Wow, that’s quite the surprise for fans who have been singing the wrong words for 15 years.
Luke also shared that the mix-up has even led to some funny moments during his shows, including a time when the wrong line appeared on a teleprompter.
“What’s funny is, Jason Aldean and I are doing joint headlining, and Jason has to sing that line,” he says. “And when we were working on it in rehearsals, they had it in a prompter… and it said ‘gattle in her bud’ or whatever. And Jason’s like ‘What in the hell is that?'”

This isn’t the only time Luke has had to clarify something about one of his songs in recent weeks.
Earlier this month, the singer shut down rumors that his single “Fish Hunt Golf Drink” was AI-generated.
“We’ve had some negativity out there. Some trolls kinda saying that I ‘AI’-ed it, which is completely false,” Luke said.
“That song was designed for one thing. To have fun and to tell the world what I love to do and what I strive to do,” he added.
