80,000 Classified Documents Regarding JFK’s Assassination Have Been Made Public

Previously classified documents about John F. Kennedy’s assassination were officially released on Tuesday, March 18.

This long-awaited release came after President Donald Trump signed an executive order shortly after he began his second term of presidency, calling for the files to be made public.

JFK was assassinated six decades ago after being shot while he and his wife, Jacqueline, were riding in the back of an open motorcade in Dallas, Texas. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead at 1 PM local time on November 22, 1963.

Since his tragic death, people around the world have searched for answers about JFK’s assassination.

Lee Harvey Oswald was accused of killing the former president, but just two days later, nightclub owner Jack Ruby shot and killed Oswald while he was being transported to another jail. This left many unanswered questions and a lot of conspiracy theories. Many people believe that there was much more to the case than initially thought.

More details are coming to light because of these newly released files. All 80,000 files have been made available on the National Archives website for anyone to read.

The Kennedy Family Reacts To The Release Of The Classified Files

Back in January, when President Trump first signed the executive order to make the documents public, JFK’s grandson, Jack Schlossberg, shared his thoughts on social media about the decision.

“JFK conspiracy theories – The truth is a lot sadder than the myth – a tragedy that didn’t need to happen,” Schlossberg wrote. “Not part of an inevitable grand scheme. Declassification is using JFK as a political prop, when he’s not here to punch back. There’s nothing heroic about it.”

Schlossberg has released a new statement regarding the 80,000 files. He shared multiple posts on X, doubling down on his disapproval of the files being made public and criticizing news coverage of the matter.

Another post he shared on X reads:

Schlossberg also shared a video of him live reacting to news outlets reporting on the JFK files. You can watch that below.

As of right now, other members of JFK’s surviving family have not made a public statement regarding the declassification of these documents.
