Kelly Osbourne Reveals The Pain Of Life Without Her Father, Ozzy Osbourne, One Year After His Passing
on Jul 22, 2026

One year ago today, on July 22, 2025, rock icon Ozzy Osbourne died at the age of 76.
The famed original frontman of British metal band Black Sabbath — who went on to have a solo career as well as a genre-defining reality television stint on MTV’s The Osbournes — was survived by his wife, Sharon; and his six children, including Kelly and Jack.
On the anniversary of her father’s passing, Kelly Osbourne wrote a heartfelt tribute to the rocker she knew as “Daddy.”
She also wrote about her experience with grief, writing, “I miss who I was before my daddy died.”

Posting on her Instagram page on July 22, just one year after her father, Ozzy Osbourne, died, Kelly reflected on the past, while also sharing what life has been like in the year that has passed.
Opening her letter by addressing her father as “Daddy,” she wrote, “One year ago today, the world changed forever.”
Writing that her father is “all around” her, including in “every song that stops me in my tracks,” she said, “The hardest part is that you’re gone.”
Continuing, she wrote:
“The hardest part is that I can’t touch you. I can’t hold your hand. I can’t wrap my arms around you or feel the safety that only you could give me. I always thought life was hard, but life without you has been the hardest thing I have ever had to endure.”
Saying that her dad was her “everything,” she relinquished, “Now all I have are memories.”
Going on, she writes, “I have never loved anyone or anything as deeply as uniquely as I love you,” adding, “Now I carry all of that love with nowhere to place it except within me, my son, and mumma.”
Her son, Sidney, is almost four, and she said, “I wish you could see your grandson … Every single day I catch glimpses of you in him.”
Powerfully, she then looked to how the world has responded to his passing, writing:
“I don’t think you ever truly knew the impact you had on this world. I certainly didn’t until you were gone. Person after person came forward with stories of the hope you gave them, the kindness you showed them, the strength you inspired in them. You changed lives simply by being yourself and the beautiful timeless music you created.”
She added, “You were a true working-class hero who never forgot what he came from.”
Just a matter of weeks before his death — which was determined to be from a heart attack after two decades of suffering from Parkinson’s — Ozzy reunited with Black Sabbath in their hometown of Birmingham, England, performing a massive farewell concert dubbed the “Back To The Beginning” show.
In addition to performing for his hometown, the farewell concert also reportedly raised over $190 million for charity, namely Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acom Children’s Hospice, Rolling Stone reported.
Today, July 22, Birmingham is celebrating its first-ever Ozzy Day, Kelly noted in a separate post.
Near the end of her letter, Kelly admitted, “This past year has broken me in ways I never knew were possible. Everything you warned me would happen, happened. But I want you to know that I listened. I did everything you told me to do, and I will continue to follow your words for the rest of my life.”
Further, she said, “Your voice still guides me every day.”
Concluding her letter, she wrote, “Thank you for being my daddy. Thank you for loving me so fiercely. Thank you for making me who I am.”

Kelly Osbourne Opens Up About Grief
In a separate post shared hours before her letter to her father, Kelly opened up about her experience grieving his loss.
“I don’t just mourn the father I lost,” Kelly began. “I mourn the soul I was before death taught my heart its own name.”
Later on in the post, she states, “People think grief is missing someone who is gone, but the deepest sorrow is waking each day longing for the version of yourself who died with them.”
