Kid Rock is taking a new step in his faith journey with the release of Christian music, introducing a different side of the longtime rocker and marking a new chapter in his career.

We first heard of his newfound faith when he headlined the Turning Point USA alternate Super Bowl halftime show and performed Cody Johnson’s “‘Til You Can’t” while adding a new verse. A few days after the performance, he released the studio version and music video.

On October 1st, Kid Rock announced his new album, Halfway 2 Jesus, and the track listing, which included “‘Til You Can’t” and some collaborations with Gary LeVox, Jimmie Allen, and rapper Eminem.

The musician also released the first song off the album, “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King),” along with an accompanying music video.

Kid Rock’s Collaboration With Eminem Made Headlines

Without ever even hearing their collaboration, Kid Rock’s new song “7 Sins,” featuring Eminem made headlines.

The two artists have been friends for nearly 40 years, having both grown up in Detroit, Michigan. Despite being friends for decades, they have only collaborated once: Kid Rock’s 1998 song “F*** Off.”

Many people had things to say about the upcoming collaboration because of their differing political beliefs, but the two decided long ago not to let politics interfere with their friendship.

On October 11th, Kid Rock appeared on the Fox News program My View with Lara Trump, where he explained, “We said years ago, we said, ‘Man, let’s not let politics divide us.’ We never did.”

In fact, Kid Rock had even publicly lauded Eminem after the “Lose Yourself” rapper endorsed Kamala Harris for president in 2024, saying, “I don’t agree with his politics, but I do give credit to him and people like Taylor Swift for standing up and not being afraid to be vocal for that in which they believe.”

During the TV appearance, Kid Rock noted the irony that “two little, foulmouth rappers — white rappers — from Detroit” could “set a good example for the rest of this country.”

“It’s OK … to differ politically and still be friends,” he said. “Thinking differently and having the freedom to do so is what makes this country great.”

After receiving some backlash for including Eminem on this project, Kid Rock took to social media to address it.

“You know there’s been some people on the internet and whatnot, like there always is, don’t seem to be too thrilled about my old friend of almost 40 years, Eminem, doing a song with me on my new album Halfway 2 Jesus,” he says. “You folks will probably be happy to hear that he’s no longer on ‘7 Sins.’ Another very good friend of mine, Lil Wayne, is now on ‘7 Sins.’”

Kid Rock continued, “And it will probably not make you very happy to hear that Eminem is still on the album. He’s just on another song called ‘Heal My Faith.’”

He reiterated that “thinking differently and having the freedom to do so is what makes the country great.”

The musician shared his new tracking listing for the album. See it below.

Be One Of The First People To Hear Halfway 2 Jesus, Kid Rock’s Brand New Album

Unlike most music releases, which take place on Fridays, Kid Rock chose to release his album on a Saturday, specifically the date October 17th.

The musician revealed recently that the numbers “1” and “7” have meant a lot to him for his whole life, especially seeing as he was born on January 17th, 1971, which is why he decided to release his album on 10/17.

Halfway 2 Jesus begins with “Freedom,” which is a track he actually does not even sing on. Instead, it is a glorious choir song, one that will remind you of walking into church on a Sunday.

“7 Sins” is a song about how although he has been baptized, he is still guilty of the seven sins, and continuing to repent for those sins. Lil Wayne joins him on this track, replacing Eminem.

“7 Sins” is followed by a funky, soul-inspired song “Why Don’t You Look Into Jesus,” which details a lot of mistakes a sinner can make that would encourage them to look to religion to help them get through.

“Heal My Faith” featuring Eminem is probably the most-anticipated song on the album, and it is worth the wait. Kid Rock has never sounded better vocally in the chorus, singing the powerful lyrics, “Lord, Lord above / Shine your light, show me love, please let me in / Heal my faith and forgive my sins.”

Eminem’s powerful verse is the cherry on top, rapping about their history, coming up from Detroit, their moves to LA, and their rise to stardom.

“Water Into Wine” is a valid question from a party boy like Kid Rock. He asks, “If Jesus didn’t want me to have a real good time then why the hell would he turn water into wine?”

The title track, “Halfway 2 Jesus” features Rascal Flatts’ Gary LeVox and country singer Jimmie Allen. The song includes chilling three-part harmony, with LeVox’s signature tenor voice soaring high over the baritone harmony sung by Allen and melody performed by Kid Rock.

Track 9, “Me And Jesus,” is a cover of a Tom T. Hall song that was released in 1972. While it wasn’t a success for him, the song has stood the test of time, with country sings like George Jones and Brad Paisley releasing their own versions over the years.

“God Is Good” is an emotional ballad about how God comes into your life when you at the lowest moments of your life, while “Into The Setting Sun” is a bit more upbeat, but is about how Jesus is always walking beside you, especially at the end of your life.

Not every song in the collection is explicitly religious. “I Don’t Drink Whiskey Anymore” delivers a powerful message about addiction, while “Brokenhearted People” highlights the strength and healing that can be found in love.

He ends the album with the patriotic song “God Bless The USA,” originally written and released by Lee Greenwood. Kid Rock changed up the tempo, guitar chords, and the melody a little bit, but it stays true to Greenwood’s original message: pride to be an American.
