David Allan Coe Dies At 86
Legendary outlaw country musician David Allan Coe has passed away at the age of 86.
A representative confirmed to Country Rebel that Coe died on April 29 around 5 p.m. EST in a hospital after spending time in the intensive care unit. As of now, an official cause of death has not been released.
David Allan Coe is survived by his wife, Kimberly Hastings Coe, with whom he marked his 16th wedding anniversary earlier this month. He also leaves behind five children: Tyler Mahan Coe, Tanya Montana Coe, Shelli Coe, Shyanne Coe, and Carla Coe.

Coe was born in 1939 in Akron, Ohio. His early years were difficult, and he spent significant time in reform schools and correctional facilities. While incarcerated at the Ohio State Penitentiary, he first began writing songs and performing, marking the start of his path toward a music career.
Following his release in the late 1960s, Coe relocated to Nashville in hopes of launching a music career. His first major breakthrough came in 1975 when Tanya Tucker recorded his song “Would You Lay with Me (In a Field of Stone),” which became a No. 1 country hit and brought him widespread recognition as a songwriter.

Tanya Tucker & Kid Rock Pay Tribute To The Late Singer
Following reports of Coe’s passing, many country artists took to social media to share heartfelt tributes, remembering his influence and contributions to outlaw country music.
Tucker was one of the first to share a heartfelt tribute:
“Losing my buddy is hard,” she began. “We have a lot of history together me and DAC. He was a part of my success in this business. A big part. It really breaks my heart that I didn’t get to say goodbye my love my heart goes out to Kim. She loved the man now if I can just get through the night thinking about all the memories and the song would you lay with me in the field of Stone if my needs were strong Would you lay with me thanks DAC. You’ll always be a part of me.”
Kid Rock, who spent a significant amount time with Coe over the years while touring and writing, says he had the privilege of seeing a side to the country singer that not many people could witness.
“He was such a deep thinker, kind and about as real as an outlaw can get! He did not give a damn what anyone thought of him. Always loved this cover of ‘Only God Knows Why’ he recorded on his tour bus,” Kid Rock shared.
Kid Rock then says he has “piles of songs” written with his fellow country artist that he needs to “dig up.”
