The night naturally lent itself to some collaborations. One of the best collaborations came when Wilson and King joined Skynyrd to sing their iconic song, “Sweet Home Alabama.”

“Sweet Home Alabama” was featured on Skynyrd’s second album, appropriately titled Second Helping. Lead singer Ronnie Van Zant co-wrote the track with the band’s guitarists Ed King and Gary Rossington.

The song reached the eighth spot on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 following its release in 1974. To this day, it remains one of Skynyrd’s signature songs.

After five decades, “Sweet Home Alabama” still gets audiences hyped up and ready to party. With Skynyrd being part of Nashville’s New Year’s Eve bash, it only made sense for them to perform the song that night.

But they made things even better by having Wilson and King join them onstage!

Wilson and King stood on either side of Skynyrd’s current lead vocalist, Johnny Van Zant (Ronnie’s younger brother). Van Zant started off singing, before handing things over to Wilson. Then King joined in, and they all performed together as a group.

Everyone looked like they were having a blast!

The New Year’s Eve bash aired on TV as well. Viewers at home loved every second of Skynyrd’s collaboration with Wilson and King. Some of the comments on the performance’s YouTube video include:

“Truly enjoyed this and their show last night on the Nashville Bash for New Years Eve….”

“AMAZING!! Would have loved to have been at this concert!!”

“Love it! Keep Southern Rock alive!”

“Lynyrd Skynyrd rocked the house with real music! NYC has nothing on Nashville!”
