Lane Frost Documentary Released In Honor Of His 61st Birthday

A new full-length documentary about the life of Lane Frost was released on October 12 on what would have been his 61st birthday.
July 30, 1989, will forever be remembered as the day rodeo changed forever. It was the day that champion bull rider Lane Frost died while competing at the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo.

At the time of his death, Lane Frost was at the height of his professional bull riding career. Two years prior, he was named the 1987 PRCA World Champion bull rider. And he was the only competitor to score a qualified ride on Red Rock, the 1987 PRCA Bucking Bull of the Year.
But his career came to an end when, upon dismounting after a successful 85-point ride on Takin’ Care of Business, the Brahma bull turned on him and gored him in the back. Frost died of massive internal injuries at the age of 25.
In 1993, Lane Frost’s life was immortalized in the movie 8 Seconds. The movie, which featured Beverly Hills, 90210 star Luke Perry as Frost, gave fans a glimpse into the bull rider’s career and his relationship with his wife, Kellie. The film premiered shortly after what would have been Lane’s 30th birthday.

At the time of 8 Seconds‘ release, his family shared that the script was loosely based on Lane’s life.
In celebration of what would have been Lane Frost’s 61st birthday, a new documentary about his life was released.
Lane Frost would have celebrated his 61st birthday on October 12, 2024. To honor the day, the highly anticipated documentary Lane: Life, Legend, Legacy, is now available to watch on-demand at LaneFrost.com.
Production on the documentary began in 2020 with producers Chris Juen and Chad Gunderson (“The Chosen”) at the helm. The film features interviews with Lane’s parents, Clyde and Elsie Frost, his widow, Kellie Macy, his best friend, Tuff Hedeman, fellow champion bull rider Don Gay, country music star, Cody Johnson, and many more.

“We, the Frost family, think it is important to let people see the true story of Lane Frost and how hard a champion works to chase his dreams and ultimately what it means to leave a legacy like he did,” the family shared in a statement. “This being near and dear to our hearts, we are excited to say we are fully behind this documentary.”
James Trawick of Tough Draw Productions shared that he hopes the expansive look into Lane Frost’s life will inspired people to “live a life that is more selfless and giving.”
“If I have learned anything from these first-hand accounts, it is that Lane’s selfless acts are still felt by the people who receive them today. Lasting impact is possible for all of us, all we have to do is treat each person we meet with dignity and respect, be honest and don’t let your ego get in the way of doing what is right.”
