Will Kevin Costner Ever Appear On “Marshals”? Luke Grimes Shares What He Thinks

Could we ever see Kevin Costner make a cameo in Marshals? For the first time, Luke Grimes is sharing what he thinks about the possibility.
Costner was once the face of the Yellowstone universe during the original show’s run. That changed when he left the series, leaving his character, John Dutton, behind halfway through Season 5.
Plenty of theories have circulated about why Costner ultimately exited the Taylor Sheridan show. Some reports pointed to scheduling conflicts, and others suggested there were behind-the-scenes disagreements.
Whatever the reasons were, Costner and Sheridan agreed that it was best for John Dutton to leave the show. During Episode 9 of Season 5, John was killed off.
As we know, once Yellowstone officially wrapped, a few of its main characters went on to get their own spinoff series. One of those was Marshals, which stars Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, John’s son.
Marshals has now returned for its second season, and there’s still plenty of story left to tell. So, could one of those stories include a flashback featuring Costner’s character?
In a recent interview with USA TODAY, Grimes shared his thoughts on whether he could ever see that happening.
Luke Grimes Says “We’ll See” To A Kevin Costner Marshals Appearance
Grimes admitted that he and Costner haven’t kept in touch over the years.
“I’ve never spoken to Kevin since we stopped working together, not for any other reason than just, you know, we’re both busy guys and life moves on,” he told the outlet.
Grimes continues, saying that he isn’t sure how a cameo from Costner could work. Of course, the only real option would be some kind of flashback, but he questions whether that would actually make sense for Kayce’s storyline right now.
“I mean, I think it would be cool. I doubt that will happen at this point, I just don’t know, you know. I think if there was a flashback, I’d probably rather it be with Monica than John. I think that would be more poignant to the character, but we’ll see”.
Grimes is referring to Kelsey Asbille’s character, Monica Dutton. She played Kayce’s wife for all five seasons of Yellowstone, but when Marshals season 1 premiered, she did not reprise the role.

The Season 2 premiere of Marshals aired on Sunday, October 4, with a nail-biting premiere. Viewers even saw the surprising death of one major character.
