Marshals Marks The Next Chapter For Kayce Dutton
Since its premiere on March 1st, fans have been loving the newest Yellowstone spin-off centered solely on Kayce Dutton. Marshals follows John Dutton’s son as he takes a decisive turn in his life, joining an elite team of U.S. Marshals.
A major bombshell was revealed immediately – as Kayce’s beloved wife, Monica, has tragically died from cancer. The episode later reveals that the illness may have been related to toxins dumped by a mine on the Broken Rock Reservation. We learn that this loss has deeply affected Kayce in a profound way as he admits to how her death has gravely impacted his life.
He agrees to join the Marshals team, giving him a renewed sense of purpose. Kayce later visits Monica’s memorial, promising his late wife that he will begin to try again.
Riley Green Makes His Big Acting Debut
Actor Luke Grimes returned to the role as Kayce as well as Broken Rock chairman Thomas Rainwater (played by Gil Birmingham). The spin-off also welcomed a new cast-member, Logan Marshall-Green, who will play Pete “Cal” Calvin, a close friend from Kayce’s military past.
Last week, country fans tuned in to watch country singer Riley Green as he made his big acting debut! Riley plays a troubled cowboy named Garrett.
This is Riley’s first acting role, and it’s a pretty big one to land without prior experience. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of the show’s premiere, the singer shared that he was introduced to the opportunity by Luke.
The two are friends in real life and have even worked together before, since Luke is also a country singer. When Riley mentioned his interest in acting, Luke helped connect him with an audition, and from there, everything moved fast.

Episode 9 Recap: “In Low Places”
On this week’s episode, “In Low Places,” things pick up right where they left off and the team races to rescue Andrea after she’s kidnapped by Randall Clegg. The episode opens in the middle of a shootout at Clegg’s compound, forcing the Marshals to retreat and regroup as tensions rise within the team.
Tensions run high as everyone turns inward with blame. Cal feels responsible for Andrea being taken on his watch, especially since she was alone while he stepped away for a mysterious doctor’s appointment. Kayce, meanwhile, wrestles with guilt over his family’s long-standing feud with Clegg, which helped put the team in danger. Both men are also weighed down by lingering memories from their time serving as Navy SEALs in Afghanistan.
Kayce wastes no time pushing to bring in Garrett (played by Riley Green), the former SEAL teammate who resurfaced in last week’s episode. Even though Garrett is clearly unstable, Kayce argues that his reconnaissance expertise is too valuable to ignore with Andrea’s life at stake. Cal pushes back, but to no avail. Kayce soon reappears with Garrett, just as their supervisor Gifford and an FBI representative arrive on scene.

Andrea’s Fight To Break Free
Inside Clegg’s compound, Andrea does her best to stay composed under pressure. At one point, a pregnant woman tries to force her into a dress so she can blend in with other women and children to be used as human shields.
Andrea is pushed to take action, quickly breaking free from her restraints as she ambushes a guard who comes to check on her. She almost escapes, even managing to open the front door, but is caught again before she can get away.
Outside, Kayce and Garrett scout the property from the rear, searching for weaknesses. They briefly see the front door open but miss Andrea, leaving her location uncertain, until the team connects to a 911 call she secretly left active on the stolen phone. Using that, they begin piecing together where she’s being held.
When Andrea tries to reason with Clegg, he responds by killing the subdued guard and issuing a stark warning about his cause.

With the tactical team still far out, Kayce and the others decide not to wait, pushing ahead with a risky breach despite objections from their superiors. Kayce brings Garrett along but soon realizes he’s not in the right state of mind, assigning him to cover from a sniper position instead. Creating a diversion, Kayce detonates a nearby explosives shed, giving the team an opening to move in.
By then, Andrea has been moved to a tanning shed, where she fights back again, leaving a streak of blood on the door that catches Kayce’s attention. He checks it out, takes down the guard, and finally gets her out safely.

The Team Makes Amends
The episode closes on a calmer note, with the team starting to make amends. Cal apologizes to Andrea for not being there when she was taken, and he and Garrett begin to mend their strained relationship, with Cal admitting he’s still haunted by the loss of their fellow SEAL, Rhoner. Gifford.
Later, the group gathers at Kayce’s house for a quiet moment together. Garrett even pulls out a guitar (and performs Riley’s real-life new song titled “My Way”) while everyone relaxes under the stars.
Kayce and Andrea eventually step away from the group, sharing a more personal moment. He asks if she was the one who opened the door during the rescue, saying he felt it was her. Andrea admits she’s still homesick but says she’s glad to be on the team with him. The episode ends with a lingering look between them, hinting that their connection may be turning into something more.
