About a month ago, Morgan Wallen released a mysterious sample of a new song, which is now known to be titled “Been By Now.”

Over the course of the past month-and-a-half, more from the song was gradually shared, including a slowed down rendition of the song on piano.

Then, on Friday, July 17, during his first night of shows in Baltimore, Maryland, Morgan finally performed “Been By Now” live, and he also shared when everyone can expect to hear his studio recording of the new song.

“I just had a few weeks off the tour, so, y’all know me, I can’t help but work a little bit,” said Morgan to the crowd at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on July 17. “I’ve been in the studio working on my — whatever’s next.”

Was Morgan about to say “my next album?” It’s not entirely clear, but the past month saw the artist share a link to a simple website with black text, reading, “Be the first to hear new music from Morgan Wallen.”

From there, that website linked to pre-save this unspecified music to Spotify or to pre-add to Apple Music.

Continuing his comments to fans in Baltimore, he said, “I don’t exactly know what’s gonna be next yet, but I do know that this song that I’m about to play right now is gonna be my very next single, and it comes out on July 24th.”

Now, that previously mentioned link leads to a page featuring the washed out infrared image of a setting sun against the water, noting the song “Been By Now” will be released on July 24.

Even his official website reflects the upcoming release of the song “Been By Now,” featuring a launch screen bearing the image of the setting sun over the water. Past the launch screen, his website is still very much in the I’m The Problem era, but the certainty of new music being on the horizon is exciting.

Of course, this year has already seen Morgan collaborate on some major country tracks, including the stunning high-concept country quartet ballad “McArthur,” by HARDY, featuring Wallen, Tim McGraw, and Eric Church.

That song was followed by the release of a duet between Ella Langley and Wallen, titled “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” which has become a staple of their shows together on tour — even inspiring significant fan theories about their onstage chemistry.

Prior to performing “Been By Now” live, he released two samples of the studio recording of the song, one of which is a video of him singing along with the song, as can be seen, here:

Now, fans wait patiently for this coming Friday, July 24, for the release of what may mark the first of many new songs on Morgan’s next album.

This is a developing story.
