Niall Horan Shares His Love For Country Music
Niall Horan was born in Westmeath, Ireland, on September 13, 1993. He rose to fame as a member of One Direction, known for songs such as “What Makes You Beautiful,” “Live While We’re Young,” and “Best Song Ever.”
After One Direction disbanded in 2016, Horan began releasing solo music. His first solo album, Flicker, dropped in 2017. He’s since released two more albums, with another, titled Dinner Party, set for release on June 5, 2026.
Horan has also served as a coach on The Voice during Seasons 23-24 and Season 28. He won all three times, becoming the first coach to ever win their first three seasons.

During his time on The Voice, Horan formed a close friendship with country coaches Blake Shelton (who he jokingly called “dad”) and Reba McEntire. His love for country music has been made clear throughout his career, especially after he released a duet with Thomas Rhett.
Horan joined Rhett to record a new version of Rhett’s “Old Tricks,” which was released in October 2025. Funny enough, Blake Shelton was the artist who was featured on the original version of the song.

Even more recently, Horan spoke with Rolling Stone about why he feels drawn to country music. He told the outlet he believes country music is quite similar to the Irish folk music he heard growing up.
“I just have a natural love for country music,” Horan said. “I think Irish folk music and country music…they’re married. So it’s just, it’s in us a little bit more, maybe, than it is in the UK or whatever. I…have always just appreciated the storytelling. I get it, I understand it.”
Millions Tune In To Watch Niall Horan Sing Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas”
One country song that Niall Horan really seems to “get” right now is “Choosin’ Texas” by Ella Langley.
“Choosin’ Texas” has smashed records left and right, becoming the longest-running country song by a female artist to top the Billboard Hot 100. At the time of this writing, the track has spent 8 non-consecutive weeks at #1 on the Hot 100.
The song’s official music video, which stars Miranda Lambert, Kaitlin Butts, Ava Phillippe, and Luke Grimes, has over 25 million views on YouTube one month after its release.
Like so many people, Horan found himself enchanted by “Choosin’ Texas.” He felt compelled to cover the song, which he filmed and shared with the world.
His charming acoustic performance quickly took off online. The video has generated over 2.8 million views on TikTok since it was posted on May 4, and over 418,000 views on Facebook.
Some of the reactions to his rendition on TikTok included:
“You can’t do this and not drop something for us in Spotify.”
“NIALL IS AN ELLA FELLA!!”
“Whoa there cowboy.”
“I wanna hear you sing this in Nashville.”
“Texas thanks you [right now].”
“Do it again but with a cowboy hat on.”
“niall in his cowboy era just makes sense.”
“this means a lot to me thank you.”
For his part, Horan captioned the clip, “what a tuneee.”
His video also caught the attention of the Academy of Country Music (ACM), who commented, “hey so i’ve got an idea.” It’s worth noting that Horan “liked” the comment.
The 2026 ACM Awards are coming up on May 17th. Langley is part of the performance lineup, but we don’t know what she’s singing. Is there a chance she’ll sing “Choosin’ Texas” with Horan? Guess we’ll have to wait and see!
In the meantime, catch Niall Horan’s unplugged cover of “Choosin’ Texas” in the clip below. What do you think of his rendition?
