Only 2 Artists Have Won Nashville Songwriters HOF’s Career Maker Award – Who Are They?

The Nashville Songwriters Hall Of Fame handed out the rare Career Maker Award and inducted six members during the 56th Anniversary Gala on October 26th, 2026.
The inductees included Taylor Swift (20-Year Contemporary Songwriter/Artist category), Lyle Lovett (30-Year Veteran Artist category), Bruce Channel (30-Year Veteran Songwriter category), Shawn Camp (20-Year Contemporary Songwriter category) and Lee Thomas Miller (20-Year Contemporary Songwriter category).
Additionally, George Strait was honored the Career Maker Award.
What Is The Career Maker Award?
The Career Maker Award recognizes recording artists who are not Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame members themselves, but whose advocacy and career support have helped songwriters achieve induction.
The plaque that Strait received reads:
“With profound admiration and gratitude the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Board and its 260 members are honored to present George Strait with our Career Maker Award in recognition and celebration of your prolific and venerable career as a recording artist. Your endless pursuit of great songs, written with integrity and originality, has helped propel a host of talented songwriters into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.”
Strait has recorded 264 songs written or co-written by 72 Hall of Fame members, and he knows he wouldn’t have a career without them. When accepting the award, which was presented to him by songwriters Gary Nicholson and Dean Dillon, he said, “I think they got this turned around, because they made my career. That’s the way I feel. I truly do and I always will.”
He continued, “I just want to say thank y’all. All of you who sent songs my way and made my career. I appreciate it very much. Thank you.”
Only One Other Artist Has Been Honored With The Career Maker Award
George Strait became just the second person to be given the honor of the Career Maker Award, but who was the first?
None other than Reba McEntire!
Reba was given the award in 2018, and at the time, she had released nearly 80 songs that were written or co-written by more than 40 songwriters who later entered the Hall of Fame. This number represented about 20% of the total membership at the time.
