United Airlines Flight Catches Fire In Houston Amid Growing Aviation Concerns

Fears around plane travel are already heightened after the two plane crashes that made headlines this week. Both tragedies cost lives and have left the nation reeling.

A passenger jet collided with an Army helicopter in Washington DC, taking the lives of 67 people. Later this week in Philadelphia, a small jet crashed into a busy neighborhood, killing seven people, six on board and one bystander.

A Plane Caught Fire In Texas

Another plane incident has made headlines, but thankfully, no one suffered any harm.

A United Airlines flight caught fire on Sunday, February 2.

Emergency personnel evacuated 104 passengers and 5 crew members from United Airlines Flight 1382 at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas. The flight was set to depart from Houston to New York City. They used slides and stairs for the evacuation.

Around 8:35 AM, the takeoff was aborted after an indication of an issue with one of the engines was received, according to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) statement.

In a video posted by @blondieashlynnn on TikTok, orange flames and smoke flare from the wing of a plane. Passengers express their terror in the video, pleading, “Please, please get us out of here,” which highlights the current anxieties surrounding air travel.

The FAA is still investigating the incident to determine why the plane caught fire. Fortunately, this occurred before the plane took off.
