Randy Travis Responds To False A.I. Claims Regarding His New Album

It has been 13 years since country artist Randy Travis had a stroke, making it difficult to sing.
Since then, Randy has put out a few cover albums — some featuring gospel songs — but all of them were recorded prior to his stroke.
However, this fall, Randy will be releasing a new album featuring new songs, titled Same Old Way, but its release has been surrounded by misunderstandings about how it was recorded.
The biggest accusation about the new album is that it was recorded using A.I.
Now, Randy is setting the record straight.

Randy Travis Debunks A.I. Claims About His New Album
Following a stroke in 2013, Randy Travis was diagnosed with aphasia, which affects his ability to communicate.
Since then, he has often relied upon his wife, Mary Davis Travis, to speak on his behalf, as was recently seen when Travis shared a video statement at the farewell concert for Alan Jackson.
A few days ago, on Sept. 12, Randy’s Instagram page shared a post about the upcoming November release of Randy’s album Same Old Way, noting that several songs from it were already available to listen to.
The post went on to read:
“And there’s more where that came from… A brand-new album featuring never-before-released, pre-recorded tracks from before 2013 is yours this November.”
That the album is comprised of songs recorded prior to 2013, when he had his stroke, was lost on some social media users.
While many comments were excited about the prospect of new Randy Travis music, some comments were particularly cruel.
On Instagram, one user wrote, “You know he can barely get a whisper out of [sic] has no idea who he is. Where he is. Or what day it is. But AI sure can take his music and create some new songs.”
Responding to that comment, someone simply wrote, “Not AI. Read the caption.”
Another comment on Randy’s post said, “I didn’t think he could speak…..how’s he singing putting out new album…..let me guess somebody else is singing it through computer or some s***.”
Some of these A.I. concerns, while poorly formulated, are not entirely invalid, as Randy Travis did have some high-profile songs released with the help of artificial intelligence in 2024.
In a CBS Sunday Morning profile in 2024, the use of A.I. in a few recent Randy Travis songs was disclosed.
Producers at Warner Music Nashville were able to use an A.I. program to take the vocal tracks from past recordings of Randy and meld them with new vocals recorded by James DuPré.
Still, this process was not utilized for Randy’s upcoming 2026 album Same Old Way, the title of which almost speaks to the reality of releasing an album in the “same old way” that he used to record them.
On Wednesday, Sept. 16, Randy shared a post addressing these kinds of comments about the alleged use of A.I. on the new album directly, writing in the caption, “Just clearing up a few things the Same Old Way..”
Posting a photo of himself holding a cardboard sign outdoors, the sign says, “No. My new album is not A.I.”
The songs on Same Old Way are sourced from remastered, previously unreleased songs that Randy recorded prior to his stroke.
