Report: ‘America’s Got Talent’ May Leave LA After 21 Seasons

For the past 21 years, America’s Got Talent has filmed at Pasadena Civic Auditorium, but a new report suggests this could be the show’s final year at the iconic venue.
America’s Got Talent premiered on NBC in 2006 and quickly became one of television’s biggest talent competition shows, giving singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, acrobats and other performers a chance to compete for a life-changing prize.
Created by Simon Cowell, the series has featured a rotating lineup of celebrity judges and hosts over the years, while its famous Golden Buzzer has become one of the show’s most recognizable traditions. With performers of all ages taking the stage, AGT has helped launch and spotlight countless acts from around the world.
America’s Got Talent Is Reportedly Eyeing A Move Out Of LA
In a new report from TMZ, the talent competition show could possibly move out of Los Angeles for the first time in 21 years.
Sources tell the publication that the reason behind the movie would be because of money. They would not be the first show of its kind to move out of California.
Fremantle, the production company behind America’s Got Talent, also produces American Idol, which is reportedly considering a move out of California as well.
According to TMZ, other states, such as Georgia and Tennessee, are offering “bigger production incentives” as well as tax credits. Deadline reported that Idol is moving production to Atlanta, Georgia.
The Masked Singer has also moved production from Los Angeles to New Jersey, where unscripted television shows can claim “production tax incentives of 30% on qualified expenses with up to 40% on certain studio projects.”
While California expanded their tax credits, it may not enough for any of these high production shows to stay in LA.
The new credits were available to “large-scale competition shows” with a minimum per-episode budget of $1 million. Idol does not qualify, so we can only assume that America’s Got Talent doesn’t either.
The America’s Got Talent two-night finale begins on Tuesday, September 22 and the season wraps up on Wednesday, September 23.
